Celtic Circle Dance Company

About Celtic Circle Dance Company

Our dance is based on traditional Irish footwork, with accents from other celtic nations, and modern inspiration. We dance for fun, and our focus is on entertainment and display style dances.

Celtic Circle Dance Company Description

Traditionally Irish Dancing was taught and danced predominantly by men for men. As such there is a very definite masculine base to this dance form, especially in the solo dances.

Women have feminised it somewhat through costuming and grooming yet movements remain very staccato and sharp.

Celtic Circle is venturing out to bring back some feminine balance through inspirations of other celtic folk dance forms, included but not limited to Scotland and Galacia.

Softer more flowing movements using the upper body and manipulation of skirts /dresses are taught for the female students, whilst the traditional straight arms and sharp upper body movements are kept for the male students.

In a nutshell - we dance as we imagine Irish dance would have evolved without the invasion of the English. Part modern, part traditional, part pagan.
