To be fair (and the reason I'm giving 1 star) - the CEX store at Wollongong has only been opened for about a month. As a business owner, I am well aware of "teething issues" however what I experienced today was just terrible customer service and misleading advertising.

I wanted to sell a HP 23" Pavilion 23-q019a TouchSmart All-In-One Desktop. The computer was in excellent condition and 12 months old. I had reset the computer the evening before after visiting the CEX Wollongong website and finding an inferior HP Envy 23-d01a listed on their website for:

HP 23-D010A/i7-3770S/16GB/2TB HDD/DVD-RW/Windows 10/B
WeSell for $1,400.00
WeBuy for cash $490.00
WeBuy for voucher $770.00

Taking into consideration my computer was at least, if not more powerful than the listed product - I took my PC into CEX Wollongong at 10:00am the following morning.

I was advised the computer would need to be tested, my direct-debit details were taken and I was forced to sign up to their store membership program (using a phone provided by the CEX staff member). I was advised to return in 30 minutes.

Upon arrival at 10:30am, I was told that there was a problem initialising the computer after the restart. I used a back-up / restore disc and had the computer running within 30 mins at which point I was advised that as a test would still need to be conducted on my computer, I should go home and I would receive a text message or call when the test had finished.

At 3:30pm I decided to check to see what was wrong with the computer - the test was supposed to take 30 minutes and I had heard nothing. Upon return to the store I heard a young female staff member complaining to a male staff member about whether she would gain a promotion to Assistant Manager. Whilst I waited to be greeted, I noticed the employee who had served me in the morning and had promised to call or SMS me with the result had left.

Finally, I asked what was wrong with the computer. I was advised nothing was wrong, the computer was in excellent condition and they would credit my account with $230.00 the next day.

I enquired as to why on their website, a lower-spec and older computer was advertised as being worth $490.00 Cash or $770.00 Voucher (with a sale price of $1,400.00). The female employee advised me that she was surprised too and thought it might have been $330.00 - once the male employee overheard this (as did other customers) I was advised that the money could be put into my account the next day and when I queried the $260.00 difference I was told that the "pricing team doesn't always keep up to date with demand".

To summarise:
- Website states the older version of my PC will be paid approximately $490.00 or $770.00 voucher, with a sale price of $1400.00.
- I was told I would be called or text messaged when the "test" had been completed, no communication had been attempted.
- It took 3 minutes of staff talking about possible promotions before being served.
- I was offered $260.00 less than advertised, not paid in cash, but deposited into my bank account the following day.

The manager of this store needs to be aware that this isn't good enough. You need to keep your advertised prices updated or not advertise them at all. You need to ensure client communications are made when promised and not wait for the client to simply return when they have "had enough".

Additionally, for a shop that advertises the exchange of products - a $230.00 payment for a PC that will go on sale for $1,400.00 should be made in cash - not direct deposit with a forced membership sign-up.

The phone number listed is wrong. It calls Rouse Hill town centre. CEX We Buy doesn't have a contact number.
Great store, I always trade my games there. Great staff, who are very friendly and helpful.
