Mining companies are breaching the law by pushing costs for medical assessments and safety gear on to workers. It's another outrageous exploitation of casual workers. Now the Qld Mines Inspectorate is going to crack down on companies insisting labour hire workers pay for their own health checks and personal protective equipment as a condition of employment. https://me.cfmeu.org.au/…/mineworkers%E 2%80%99-medical-asse…
Bosses want new laws to protect the 'permanent casual' rort.
They want the stability of workers' on-going commitment, but don't want to pay for it.
Share if you think it's unfair.
Honouring the role of seafarers, in times of peace and war.
We must always be vigilant
Too right.
We have made more progress this week in our fight against exploitation of casual labour hire workers, says CFMEU President Tony Maher. https://me.cfmeu.org.au/…/another-nail- coffin-%E2%80%98perm…
How CFMEU Springvale Lodge members helped drought affected farmers with a hay delivery to NSW central west. https://me.cfmeu.org.au/…/%E2%80%98you- are-helping-save-far…
Solidarity with Esso maintenance workers at Longford gas plant. Since contractor UGL used a sham agreement to slash pay by up to 40% over a year ago, they've been fighting to protect decent jobs and industry standards. They have our full support. #strongertogether
Every mineworker depends on a first class mines rescue team. From the earliest days our members have shown their commitment to mine safety and their workmates’ welfare by putting their hands up to be a rescue team member.👏✊🏆
It’s shenanigans in Canberra, but we are getting on with core business: workplace safety.
US work health expert Dr Bob Cohen is updating our Union on mine dust lung diseases and how we can protect workers from deadly conditions like black lung (pneumoconiosis), silicosis and emphysema.
That time Peter Dutton tried to humiliate an Oaky North mineworker in Parliament ... 😠🥔
How long til he challenges again?
CFMEU members at Springvale and Angus Place collieries have raised $35,000 to deliver three semi-trailers of hay to drought-affected farmers - great work 👏👏👏
Our Union fights for a fair go for our members. It pays to belong. Join us! https://me.cfmeu.org.au/join
Surprise! Bosses are cranky at our great win on leave entitlements for long-term casual workers. They call it 'double-dipping', we call it equal pay for equal work. Everyone knows it's a rort when workers are kept on for years as 'permanent casuals'. Tag someone you know who has been ripped off as a casual.
Meet Paul Skene, who is at the centre of a major victory for the rights of labour hire workers today. He said: "This is a great result for labour hire workers, who should be getting the same entitlements as full-time employees. Casuals are treated as second class citizens. Today’s decision means they’ll be treated as equals."
Victory in Federal Court means the end of the "permanent casual" rort. The Full Federal Court has upheld a decision in a case run by the CFMEU that casual workers may be entitled to paid leave if they work in on-going, regular arrangements. https://me.cfmeu.org.au/…/union-victory -over-%E2%80%98perma…
We have always fought for the safety of mineworkers. It has always been a first order priority for this Union. Malcolm Loy was a highly regarded District Check Inspector from the late 70s to 1993 who knew that "the safety rules we insisted on in the Federation saved lives and limbs," even though the companies regarded the Check Inspectors as troublemakers. "We stuck to our guns because we knew what we were talking about and the owners didn't."
