About Chabad North Shore

Chabad North Shore is one of over five thousand Chabad institutions worldwide. Established in 1989, it strives to implement the vision of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, by contributing towards the ultimate goal of a world of peace, goodness and G‑dliness. This is accomplished by: Strengthening Yiddishkeit within the community by encouraging the performance of individual acts of goodness and mitzvot. Highlighting the goodness and spirituality that exists within each and every person, without exception. Nurturing the thirst for a deeper knowledge of, and desire to experience genuine spirituality for those who wish to explore this within Judaism. Creating a non-judgemental environment where Jews of all ages and backgrounds feel comfortable, accepted, and "at home" regardless of their level of observance or level of commitment, aiming to treat each person with equal respect and love. Providing emotional, spiritual and material support to all, whenever possible, unconditionally. This is put into practice through our numerous services to the broader Jewish community throughout the North Shore, including a wide array of high quality educational, outreach, crisis and welfare programmes for men, women and children of all ages.

More than half (55%) of Americans say they pray every day, according to a 2014 Pew Research Center survey, while 21% say they pray weekly or monthly. But what is the purpose of prayer? Can we cause G-d to change His mind? Is He in need of incessant praise? This third course in the 5779 series aims to make prayer more personally meaningful by addressing some of the philosophical, emotional, and practical barriers that make it difficult to pray. And by examining the history of how the Jewish prayers developed, as well as the meaning of the most notable prayers, participants will become more comfortable with tapping into Jewish prayer as a means of connection to their heritage.

IS EVIL REAL? Why do bad things happen to good people? The question has been asked—and answered—for thousands of years. But even if we understood the purpose of evil, would this make it more palatable and acceptable? Would it aid us in our efforts to fight evil? In the latest JLI Course What Is?: Rethinking Everything We Know About Our Universe, we will discover that in order to even scratch the surface of the question, "Why evil?", we also need to ask, "What is evil?", and understanding the nature of evil's existence informs our responses to the devastation it wreaks, and provides us the tools with which to battle it and defeat it. Join us for this fascinating course commencing next Tuesday 24th July at 8pm. To book, go on-line: www.chabadhouse.org.au/register

Is G-d Real? What are we talking about when we talk about G-d? Is "G-d" just a word we use when we are unable to explain something? If G-d cannot be explained or described, does this not render the concept of "belief in G-d" completely meaningless?... In the latest JLI Course: What Is?: Rethinking Everything We Know About Our Universe, we will discover that while G-d is neither logical nor real— indeed, G-d created both logic and reality—G-d has made Himself accessible to us by investing Himself in our reality, so that the more we understand our own reality, the more we understand G-d. Join us for this fascinating course commencing next Tuesday 24th July @ 8pm. To book, go on-line: www.chabadhouse.org.au/register

IS TIME REAL? When we think about our relationship with time, it usually evokes feelings of helplessness, even despair. The future is impenetrable, the past is irretrievable, and the present moment seems too fleeting to meaningfully inhabit. What is time, anyway? Is it the engine that drives the whole of existence, or is it just a product of our subjective experience? Join us for the latest JLI Course: What Is?: Rethinking Everything We Know About Our Universe, commencing n...ext Tuesday 24th July, where we will explore this question and the doctrine of Perpetual Creation.
