Chatswood Station Description

Chatswood railway station is located on the North Shore line, serving the Sydney suburb of Chatswood. It is served by Sydney Trains T1 North Shore & Northern line services. HistoryChatswood station opened on 1 January 1890 when the North Shore line opened from Hornsby to St Leonards. An island platform was built on 23 May 1900 and a third dock platform brought into use on 12 July 1919. There was a small goods yard, similar to the one at St Leonards, on the western side of the station, beyond the northern end of the platforms. The dock platform on the eastern side of the station was used for electric parcel-van traffic and also for terminating some services from the city, until these were rescheduled to terminate further along the North Shore line from January 1992. It was removed in October 1994. Until 1958 there was a tram terminus in Victoria Avenue beside the station. The station entrance was later integrated with a shopping centre called The Interchange in the mid-1980s. With the construction of the Chatswood to Epping line, it was decided to redevelop the station to accommodate Chatswood's new role as a junction station. The original station, as well as the attached bus interchange and shopping centre were demolished in 2005 and a temporary station was opened where the former platform 3 was located. A new western island platform opened in place of the original island platform on 16 October 2006. The eastern island platform opened in 2008. The signal cabin that was located at the northern end of the station building, was saved and has been preserved as part of the bus interchange.

Went here for the first time the other week. The place is amazing. So many little shops abd resturants all surrounding the station.

User

Yes it is a train station but it works like a modern mall. 5 stars.

I don't like the layout or the passenger flow facilities that could be improved with some minor changes. The Platforms are also too small for a modern station and don't get me started on how unreliable the ticket gate readers are!

User

Not much to say really, for a train station it's pretty good. The layout is thoughtful to people in a rush and the central time/station guides are right at the boom gates. There are relatively clean toilets and vending machines on some platforms. About as good as stations go.

Good places to eat. Nice cafes to sit around. Woolworths located right above the station...so that you can do your daily grocery shopping easily without putting in extra time and effort. Nice place to hang around with very nice restaurants. Some shops are also there to do some shopping.

User

I like this station as it is clean and handles the volume of people coming through quite well. The station also offers a number of different ways to get to your destination out of the station. Doesn't hurt that there is a relatively large grocery store in the station for a quick stop.

User

The station has escalators and 4 platforms. You can find everything around it.. Shopping malls, fast food centers, restaurants, offices etc, you name it and you have it..

User

It has a supermarket, coffee shops, restaurants fast food. That's everything you might need if you're in a hurry

Good access to comprehensive shopping streets and most services. Easily spend a day with the family; catering, entertainment and shopping.

The most happening place after town area. Posh and plush locality both for high rise offices and residences. Cannot miss Thursday evening market outside station on victoria avenue.
