Childrenfirst - Access Description

ACCESS is a Childrenfirst project responsible for the delivery of the Supporting Children with Additional Needs (SCAN) Program, funded by the NSW Department of Human Services Community Services, in the Greater Western region of Sydney – Blacktown / Baulkham Hills, Cumberland /Prospect, Nepean /Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains.

Our role is to assist children with additional needs in obtaining not only the educational support they require but rightfully deserve. All children have the right to equal access to quality inclusive early childhood learning experiences.

In addition to administering the SCAN funding contribution to an eligible State funded children’s service, one of our primary aims is to work in partnership with centres so that we can better understand and respond to children’s individual needs and interests.

The ACCESS Team works collaboratively with their allocated services in establishing a program of support and /or the provision of specialist equipment /resources for the funded child. Project Officers visit on a regular basis to interact with both the centre staff and children.

Another component is the provision of professional development opportunities for children’s services and other community agencies to partake in our regular training workshops (see our Training Calendar for details).
