On this day in 1895, Dr DD Palmer adjusted the spine of his building's janitor, Harvey Lillard, helping to restore his hearing which was lost after an accident some 17 years before. This lead to the development of the chiropractic profession, which today is the largest non-drug, non-pharmaceutical health care profession on the planet.
