@ang_smith23 and I enjoyed an excellent day of training day today. Considerations and approaches in the support of people in recovery from Severe and Complex eating disorders. Thanks to HNE Health for hosting such a great speaker in psychiatrist and eating disorders expert, Associate Professor Warren Ward. Feeling encouraged and inspired.

If you're a teacher or member of staff working in a primary school in the Hunter New England area please consider doing this survey. It's part of a research project being undertaken at the University of Newcastle.

Another amazing video from Healthy Tasmania. They are doing some wonderful work in their public health campaigns to encourage a healthy relationship with food and care for all bodies. It was a Tasmania Health initiative that first introduced me to to concept of mindful eating many years ago. Hopefully NSW Health will switch to positive public health campaigns instead of the shaming and scare tactic ones that they've been running recently.
Thanks to Zest Nutrition Consulting for finding this one.

Evolution of dinner. Italian chicken with tomato, boconcinni, rainbow olives, pesto and basil.
Would recommend bathing kids AFTER feeding them this. 🤦
Delicious. Messy.

This one of for the nerds. It's an extremely well referenced piece regarding the disconnect between weight loss literature and practice. It was written for psychologist but is absolutely relevant to anyone in the healthcare field who is working with people in larger bodies (whether they are seeking help with weightloss or not).
"Against a tradition in science which assumes that there are no treatment effects until they are demonstrated, there is an unchallenged convention by... which weight loss interventions are presumed effective until there is explicit evidence to the contrary. The reality is that we do not have effective treatment to offer, and we should be candid about this until there is reliable evidence to the contrary. To avoid confronting the failures of obesity treatment is to mislead a public desperately waiting with cash in hand for an effective treatment”

This is so important! The number of teenage girls I speak to who are genuinely surprised that they're supposed to gain weight, a lot of weight (around 20 kilograms), in their teen years is worrying. We need to stop the fear of weight gain that sends teenagers into war against their body.
#Repost @thiszestylife • • • • • Normal! Completely NORMAL!!!!! It’s NORMAL and necessary for girls bodies to change rapidly and to grow and gain significantly through puberty. NORMAL. A...nd look at the age range. LOOK AT IT! This is one of many reasons I lose my temper when I hear kids being restricted or adults tut-tutting about appetite and weight gain. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THEIR BODY IS TRYING TO DO. SO LET IT BE. #Repost @body_peace_liberation with @get_repost ・・・ When I tell people it's normal for girls to gain 40-50lbs during puberty they look aghast as if I'm making it up. They also will grow on average 10 inches. Young girls often have weight gain before height growth, and this is often the catalyst for developing poor body image, fatphobia and disordered eating. We need to do a better job of educating parents and teens about this normal phenomenon. #HAES #intuitiveeating #fatpositiveprovider #sizeacceptance #WakeUpWeightWatchers

This is really important and unfortunately a common story which makes recovery from eating disorders even more difficult.

Projects you finally get to when your kid is recovering from surgery so too sick for school but too well for sleep. Hopefully this lot does better than the last.

Some great tips here to consider when it comes to raising body confident children. It’s what we do, say, and our unspoken language that can have an impact. The final paragraph is brilliant.

Don't normally have 2 coffees before 9 but my HuskeeCup order from the Kickstarter campaign I supported 12 months ago just arrived and I wanted to try them out immediately.
These cups are made from the coffee husk so they reduce the waste from coffee production. They are super durable and light and you can get a lid so can be used as a travel cup and they're designed to fit under cafe coffee machines. I drink black coffee so I got the natural colour but the charcoal looks really good too.

Food for thought from Adina Pearson. Like many people I was brought up in a family where we were expected to finish everything on our plates and still it's my first instinct. But discovering mindful eating has helped bring awareness to the external influences on my eating and make decisions based more often on my internal hunger and fullness cues.
I'm working to pass that on to my kids by following the Ellyn Satter Institute Division of Responsibility in feeding which gives parents the responsibility to provide the food choice, meal times and structure but leaves the 'how much' up to the kids and I never pressure or expect them to eat everything on their plate.

There are risks to food restriction, even when it's medically necessary. This is really important to consider when dealing with anyone but especially with children with medically necessary food restrictions.
Thanks to Sarah Peck for this article.

Wow. That was tough. Goal achieved. Couldn't have done it without my #sundaycrew 4:40:41
Time goal of sub 4:30 was blown out of the water by an early bathroom break and having to stop and take off my shoe to fix a toe cramp at 12km. So I just relaxed, enjoyed the run, high fived the kids, smiled for the camera. Ran the whole way except water station and 3 stretches of about 30m . Didn't get injured. My legs will never be the same again.

Back together with @thiszestylife to give 3 hours of workshop with 3rd dietetics students at The University of Newcastle.
Received some fantastic feedback "can you guys please teach our whole course?" and really enjoyed our time presenting a different, evidenced based way to practice. Thanks for the opportunity.

Ooh, I like this a lot, worth a read.
I was such a fan of Jamie Oliver for a long time (and still like a lot of what he does), but his approach to improving health and nutrition by focusing on weight is misguided and harmful.

Super grateful for @hellofreshau taking care of the planning and shopping for dinners at our place this week as my capacity and inspiration has taken a hit recently. Tonight was another winner, Oven Baked Lamb Meatballs in Cheesy Tomato Sauce. I don't use it all the time but it's a lifesaver some weeks and I love that it's just normal, varied, fresh food with plenty of veges and without any 'healthist' messaging or diet-y marketing. And I love that they are always really easy to serve from the middle of the table family meal style.

Meg is wonderful at understanding the needs of parents and children especially and I'm grateful I can refer confidently to her. She is calm and relaxed but oh so knowlegeable and real.
