Chris Mercer Artist Description

I have painted on and off most of my life I was brought up in Liverpool England I have now lived in Australian longer than the uk. I am very fortunate to be living a such a magnificent country stunning environment with great people. I walk along the beach every morning in awe of where I have ended up.
I will still and always be the girl from Liverpool (a scouser) as this is my heritage and if you are fortunate to know anyone from Liverpool you will know they are quite a special species strong tenuous with a wicked sense of humor. I have brought this tenuousness to my art career not the easiest road to travel but when it is in your soul you have to answer the call.
I am continually inspired by Australian aboriginal art works the colours the patterns take my breath away.
Within my own work I am continually searching, challenging myself to create unique painting that are me come from me, my being, my soul. I do believe our bodies are channels and if we are open enough and allow spirit to use us great things happen.
When I am painting I am not there, my body is in the motion of doing the painting but I can also be the observer at the same time, its my meditation to me. When I have finished an art work I can see and feel myself in that painting. Painting brings me so much joy, peace, fun, freedom. I have this ability to put those feelings on to canvas, so I have a responsibility and the pleasure to do that and spread the joy.
Everything is energy, the canvas is just masses on molecules as we all are and everything is held together, moved around with energy. This is not just a painting that I share with the world it’s the energy in the art of the creation, it is joy, peace, fun and freedom

A passionate artist since childhood, originally from England living in Sydney since 1989. I studied Visual Arts at The School of Colour & Design and feel very fortunate to now be able to enjoy doing what I love full time. I work from my studio in Manly Vale with a pet rabbit called Marshmellow (yes there is a story there).

My work is about connection, connection to me, the self, the universe, spirt, the unknown. I put the paint on the canvas but something else guides and prompt, where to make the marks and colours to mix. Spirt wants to paint and I am the instrument that can make that a reality in this world.

Every painting has a happy positive energy, they also make me very happy to create and it gives me great joy creating paintings that make others feel that way to.
