I recently started buying comics, and by some stroke of fortune, I recognised the sign while in the city. I half expected the shop to be closed, but I snuck some time in to do a brief pass through the shop. The place is a little old and has likely seen beter days, but I managed to get a few things that caught my interest and left with an exceedingly good deal.

In which I returned a few hours later, hellbent on combing the shop for good stuff. While the shop in it's current state is fairly hard to peruse, I spent the better part of two hours before closing down and managed to find a lot of great stuff. The shop is still open, though I fear that won't last. I'll probably swing around one last time, but as far as impulse buying goes, it was great.

Got a beautiful haul of comics for one of my favourite characters, and it'll be sad to see this place go. Guy behind the desk was a decent, reserved guy. I can only imagine how he must feel that his store will see it's last days, but I hope he knows that I'll cherish these comics.

Unique shop featuring old or unusual comics and magazines, it used to also have a large selection of old toys and current comic issues. Unfortunately in the process of closing down.

Great place. Shame it's closing. But with that I'm going to keep coming in and grabbing a good deal while it's there. This is definitely your pops comic book store and has probably not changed since. I personally dig that.

Tons of oddball stuff aside from your general marvel and D.C. Stuff. Some well bellow market value. Mostly comics and a few trinkets left now. They seem to replenish the glass cases enough so they still have plenty of gems they refill periodically so it's not like just garbage left. They should consider doing some decent grab bags to get rid of some of a mixture.

Staff is helpful enough but typical older comic book dudes. They know their stuff but expect them to say they no longer have it in stock.

Looks like it may be closing down soon. Not a huge range, but some good old fashioned books. Huge discounts at the moment.

Many people claim to have had poor experiences here, but mine was anything but that. The selection is a little bit limited, but the guy who worked at the front desk was very nice and I had a good conversation with him. I'll definitely go back, because their prices are really reasonable.

I really can't understand the dislike of this shop...
I used to go there all the time as a teenager, and sometimes in my early twenties.
I've been going again now that it is closing down.

The staff are eccentric and a mixed-bag , and the shop is definitely oddball . They are all friendly enough though.
To me it adds to the charm, and only occasionally subtracts.
(ie. there is only one staff member who bothers me sometimes, usually by trying to hype up sales, but I just ignore him and he clams-up. I am guessing bad reviews for staff are caused pretty much just by him.
When he is serving, I will usually just do a lap around the shop and walk out and come back another day!)

I go there partly for the oddness . It's definitely offbeat, and you will find some true rarities in there.
They haven't bothered to update the shop fixtures, and to me that's fine, because the layout is actually very clear as is.

They have got some absolute gold in there. Some very hard to find stuff.

If you want clean cut, more straight-laced environment, and a more standard comic shop , in a perfectly clean (re. more sterile) environment, with white walls and white shelves, and everything uniformly laid out, with staff in uniform, Kings Comics around the corner is probably more for you.
I like both stores for different reasons. I certainly have nothing against Kings. They are excellent , and also have a great (but different) range and approach, and are also an excellent store.

Essentially, if you have no sense of humour or patience for any form of human eccentricities, and you don't care about some rare hard-to-find stuff, and you just want what is new and in print, and only care about regular Marvel / DC / Dark Horse back issues and trade paperbacks / graphic novels, it's probably not the shop for you (although they have a lot of hard to find stuff from these publishers).

If you are hyper-sensitive and tend to whinge and whine about all people not being perfect (based on reviews I've read), it's not for you.

If you want the easiest help there, go there when Clayton Wildridge is at the counter downstairs. All the other staff members are good too, except for the one guy I mentioned who bothers me.

At the moment, there are LOTS of bargains to be had.
