Just played a marathon 3 hour set at this great venue! Thanks Wheelers and Longstocking Brewery.

This pic was from an impromptu gig at Longstocking Brewery in Pambula. I had a great time playing my miniature headless guitar, sampling the excellent Weisse beer and meeting the locals. Can't wait for the next gig in a few weeks.

A big thumbs up to my excellent students Tristan and Adam, who both successfully auditioned and have been offered places in the music extension program at Balgowlah Boys High School.
I am a very proud guitar teacher!

Our instrument drive for the bushfire affected musicians of Tathra has had a great response. Please help if you can.

What's the difference between a banjo and a trampoline.......?

CAGED. Do you use it to find your way around the fretboard? It can be a handy concept to help navigate the neck, solo with confidence and make up chord variations on the spot. Let me know if this video helps you apply the CAGED system to your study of guitar.

Our Summer Holiday music improv workshop is going to be awesome! We are going to be learning how to improvise and jam with other people. All instruments are welcome. So far we have guitarists, a cellist, keyboardist, drums/percussion and a horn player! A couple more spots are available, please share or tag anyone you know who may be interested. PM for more info. Thanks!

This guy is my new hero!

So this is what playing in a big band rhythm section is like- they put you up in the back and IN the garden! I really enjoyed my time playing with the Narrabeen Swingers, I learned a lot about how the various sections push and pull the time around. The challenge for the rhythm section is to stay rock steady while the horns sit back or push the beat forward.
Plus these guys are all sight reading monsters so I had to work hard to keep up. It can be really challenging to play ...with people who are "better" than you (remember it's not a competition), but the payoffs in playing with excellent musicians are huge.
I miss this kind of gig!

Every day is an opportunity to improve on our instrument. Today I worked hard and threw myself up against my limitations. I failed at many things. Tomorrow I will do it all over again.
My practice feels like what I imagine yoga and meditation students mean when they refer to their "practice"
Daily ritual can be a powerful thing.... Practicing guitar can be a way to observe our own ability to be present, (and our ability to be distracted), to honour our potential, and train our mind and body to work without interference from our internal critic.
I hope you find joy in the ritual.

I went to school with Dean in the 80s. He’s a really funny guy and by year 12 he really knew his way around a guitar.

I get the impression he’s worked on his guitar chops since then (a lot) and can only assume he is heaps better by now.

If only he’d played Trombone instead of guitar ;)
