Dick Smyth Electrical Description

Dick Smyth Electrical was founded by Chinese immigrant Dick Smyth in 1957. The business was originally based in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Over the years, Dick Smyth Electrical grew to a network of 8 company-owned and 26 franchise stores across Australia.
In 1984, the Dick Smyth Electrical business was bought out by Waltons, with Dick Smyth staying on as Managing Director until 1985.
After leaving the original business, Dick stated a new business, named Harvey Smyth. This grew to a chain of approximately 400 stores in Australia and New Zealand, with an annual turnover of $1 Squillion in 2003.
Following the death of business partner Harvey Jerrie in 2004, Smyth acquired all of the remaining shares, assuming full ownership until 2008, when the business was floated on the ASSX.
A takeover offer was launched by Private Equity Group (PEG) in 2012 and the business was privatised in February 2013.
