THE MAKER - Leaving home at 15, Dion Antony started travelling the world as a professional athlete on the Extreme Games Pro Circuit. He was a design-minded teenage gypsy in the middle of a youth-culture boom.
Dion’s World Title exposed him to new levels of international travel and luxury, creating a whole new idea of living. Dion spent the next 10 years immersed in that diverse world of culture, music, travel and adventure and emerged with an obsession for art and décor. Whilst on tour, Dion began collecting odd and intriguing pieces of furniture, home wares and art. He haunted street markets, yard sales and designer and antique stores to ship pieces back to garages in Melbourne and Sydney.
A life time later Dion has joined his elaborate collection back in Australia, and it was Dion’s ability to create and construct that found him driving major interior fit-outs for commercial and retail spaces. His work for some of Australia’s most influential fashion and hospitality clients has won awards and design accolades.
But it was an influential episode of building and gold prospecting in a remote part of the West Australian desert that shaped Dion’s aesthetic in a brutal way. Spending a hard year, miles into the harsh Australian interior surrounded by raw desolation and rugged beauty solidified Dion’s design style into a purer form. The inclusion of gold from this period brought a new element of optimism and luxury to his pieces. The natural progression of Dion’s experiences, his love of literature, his construction prowess and a pure eye combined with his bursting archive of raw materials (now in Bondi) culminates in the launch of Dion Antony Artisan.
