Dot Com Mob

The Dot Com Mob is a not-for-profit organisation working in Australia. We aim to enhance the educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders resulting in improved social inclusion and economic opportunities. We do this by assisting community councils to establish or upgrade community technology centres. Such centres: Improve participants' psychological wellbeing through confidence building and enhanced attitudes to learning. Improve the overall literacy levels of community members. Increase social interaction in the community via constructive group activity. Increase participants' employment opportunities, quality of work and engagement in further education. Indigenous Australians continue to face extreme levels of disadvantage in living standards, life expectancy, education, literacy, health and employment. The Dot Com Mob believes that a lot of this disadvantage is caused by a widening gap in the literacy levels between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people that is perpetuated by the 'digital divide' in Australia.
