Dr. Mahony is a consummate professional in his field and has such a great chair-side manner, explaining patiently what treatment he is recommending. He is one of the top orthodontists in his field and I have witnessed other dentists and orthodontists consult him on difficult cases while I have been in the chair having my teeth done. I highly recommend him.
I had a terrible experience with this Doctor. Sure he is Knowledgeable but he is NOT someone that is GENUINELy concern with your TREATMENt but more of what you can provide on your POCKET. The google review here DOES NOT JUSTIFY his RATING. I went for an Appointment with him and paid 150$ , he did not really talk much and is not even interested to engage on my quires for continued treatment instead passed me to his medical assistant but nonetheless , just gave me nothing and told me about the next step, pay again 150$ for the pictures and xray (WHY would I have to do that again when I RECENTLY HAVE my results handed ) that is ridiculous , LEECH. After that, you need to pay again, 150$ for his analysis. Good business! GoOd luck. Make more money and I suggest just stick to lectures maybe you share more insights than being true to your HYPOCRATIC oath!

Dr. Mahony is one of the best orthodontist in the world! I actually live in the United States but I am very familiar with his work and published literature. There are many orthodontists that don't understand that how you breathe affects your face. He gets it! His work is second to none!
The most unprofessional practice I have had the misfortune of experiencing. I have seen many specialists and medical professionals in my lifetime and this was the most unorthodox system of operating I have ever seen.
A few months back, a conjoint consultation with Dr Mahony and a specialist surgeon was made to discuss my options. The 'consultation' lasted 5 mins where the specialist surgeon answered a lot of my questions with 'I will discuss all that is involved with you later'. I thought he meant he would discuss all the questions I had during the current consultation but no, I was ushered out of the room to reception to pay $95 for the appointment. I was told that I was to make another appointment with the specialist surgeon to discuss my treatment in detail... and pay how much? Pay for a SECOND appointment when I should have had time to ask any questions I had at the FIRST appointment. At the end of the consultation I was told by Mahony to 'go away and have a think about what you would like to do'. Well, how can a customer make an informed decision about what to do without critical information that should have been easily given at the first consultation?
This practice needs to review how they operate to pay more attention to customer time, concerns and worries. There is not an effective amount of time to ask questions and customers often feel extremely rushed in their appointments.
Another major problem is the general work-flow of initial appointments. The first appointment is $150, where Mahony discusses what he recommends for you and then rushes you off to make a make a second appointment so that he can recommend a treatment plan for you with more confidence. The second appointment is where you have teeth x-rays and moulds performed, which costs another $150. Then another $150 is charged for the third appointment where Mahony discusses the final treatment plan with you. I have seen other orthodontists in the past and they have never required 3 separate appointments to tell me my comprehensive treatment plan... something is amiss here. Other orthodontists have taken xrays on the same day as consultation and discussed everything with me then AND didn't charge for the initial consultation. I was then given the option to think about it before proceeding with mouth moulds etc, which would require payment should I decide to go ahead with treatment. This is not the way Mahony's practice runs.
Dr. Derek's lecture at the Sri Lanka Dental Association Scientific Session on Sleep apnoea was excellent. His lucid presentation was an eye opener that all Dentist must look beyond their confined field.
Derek's unique lecturing of Orthodontics, his life long passion, is without compare, he will command your full attention with his wit/jokes/anecdotes and shear straight talking at ALL times.
Dr Mahony is a world leading Orthodontist. He doesn't just look at straight teeth but look at the whole health of a person. He has taught thousands of dentists over the world. I would highly recommend.
It was a privilege hearing Dr Mahony's very inspiring lecture. His results are amazing, he uses the most modern technics, he is very precise and has a great deal of knowledge. I hope to have more opportunity to learn from him.

He passes his extensive knowledge to other dentist by lecturing both nationally and internationally .I would highly recommend him .He is the creator of beautiful smiles , if you are looking at having beautiful teeth and smiles this is the place !
Getting to know Dr Mahony through a friend has been a great experience. I am originally from Nepal and after our short meeting Dr Mahony has shown great interest in endowing his knowledge to dentists in Nepal by organizing his valuable lectures on the field of dentistry as an intangible act of charity. This is just not a great contribution to the field of dentistry for Nepal but also quite an ac knowledgeable act of humanity. I would like to thank him on the behalf of all Nepalese people.
