About Draft:Bankstown Rsl Dragons Fc

Bankstown RSL Dragons FC is a football (soccer) club located in the Bankstown suburb of Yagoona, New South Wales. It competes in the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) which is affiliated at a state level to Football NSW. The club accommodates both female and male teams ranging from under 6’s through to over 35’s. HistoryThe club was founded in 1982 as the De La Salle Bankstown Soccer Club, named after local high school De La Salle Bankstown, which many junior players were sourced from in the early days of the club. The newly formed club fielded two sides in its inaugural 1983 season, using St Felix Oval, Bankstown, as its home ground. The fields were shared with rugby league club Bankstown Collegiates JRLFC (now Bankstown Bulls JRLFC). The small size of the fields at St Felix Oval made it unable for older teams to use for competition, so in 1989 the club moved to Middleton Park, Yagoona. The club focused on becoming a friendly and family-oriented community and in 1993 changed its name to DLS Dragons Soccer Club. In November 1998 the club changed its name to Bankstown RSL Dragons Soccer Club, after the club's major sponsor, Bankstown RSL. In 2006, the club made the decision to identify itself as a "football" club, rather than a "soccer" club, hence the current name. In 2014, the club competed in the Waratah Cup for the first time, represented by an all-age mens division 8 team. The side was knocked out in the first round by Manly Vale FC. Colours and badgeBankstown RSL Dragons club colours are green, grey and white. The green colour originates from a local high school, De La Salle Bankstown whose primary colour is also green. The club badge features a humanoid dragon wearing football boots, with one foot placed upon a football. The dragon is encircled by the club name and was designed by late life member of the club, Lawrie Kirkness.
