East Village Hotel Balmain

What was once a great pub seems to have gone downhill quite a way. Too bright, empty restaurant at the back and a mediocre selection of beers compared to what they once had. Really poor cider selection.

One of the best pub roasts I've had in Sydney, burgers are great too and top beers. Only lose a star because they had beers displayed in their fridge, and when I asked to purchase one they said they were demos and couldn't sell them. I understand that but just don't think they should be displayed if not being able to sell. Otherwise I very much enjoyed the food, service and beers that were available.

The brisket burger is one of the best I've had, the staff are always friendly and great value for money, especially on their specials nights (burgers and mussels). Sunday roasts are also amazing!!

Sadly, you won't get the local touch here. I recently ordered some burgers to go here and was charged double on a Tue night because of "the rules". It made no difference to them that I was a regular and that I would have loved to dine in but had a newborn baby at home. "The rules" just lost a customer. There are so many pubs in Balmain, why waste your time? The Welcome Hotel have a better beer selection now too.

Went for lunch. Recently renovated. Great food and selection of beer/wine and friendly, warm atmosphere. Great to see the fireplace going on a cold day.
