East Village Sydney Description

Darlinghurst pub institution, the East Village Sydney (formerly Darlo Village /East Village), reopened in October 2016 following a dramatic refurbishment that saw three levels activated with bespoke offerings, including a 100sqm rooftop terrace with up-close views of the city skyline.

Situated on the corner of Palmer and Liverpool Streets, this four-storey, 100-year-old heritage site is steeped with history, having been the home to some of the city’s most infamous pub incarnations over the last century including the notorious 1920s dive, Tradesman’s Arms ‘The Bloodhouse’ .

Designers Alexander and Co. , who worked on Goodtime’s West Village in Petersham, were commissioned to restore and breathe life back into this gone-but-not-forgotten Darlinghurst stalwart. Reece Griffiths heads up the venue as General Manager and Bar Manager alongside Goodtime Hospitality Executive Group Chef Tom Kime (Ceru, Fish & Co. ) This formidable team continues Goodtime’s commitment to delivering innovative pub food.

Although each of the three distinctly different levels has a unique design and offering, they are bound together warmth and approachability of a traditional Aussie pub. The three levels consist of:
- The Public Bar: This ground floor bar, affectionately referred to as a “Wine-pub”, has a strong selection of great wines from near and far with a daily list of limited and interesting wines offered by the glass. This is complemented with a food menu featuring re-imagined counter meals; classic, recognisable dishes with a modern interpretation.
- The Athletic Club: A modern concept sports bar set in old world decor inspired by private dens and cigar lounges, this luxurious and comfortable space is dedicated to all things sport for all the ladies and gentlemen of East Sydney and further afield. Guests can select drinks from the leather-bound beer and whisk(e)y lists, the old fashioned and boilermaker menus or one of the rare dark liquors. Club memberships will be on offer to clientele, unlocking access to exclusive features for those sport-obsessed among us to indulge in.
- The Terrace: Commanding one of the best views of the CBD skyline in Sydney, this rooftop all- weather space features a mix of communal dining and high tables. The menu for Terrace is reflective of its atmosphere; casual, bright, and summery. Think fresh dishes, full of flavour from a wide range of influences that you can graze on from afternoon into evening. For those who prefer a little more privacy, the rooftop semi-private dining room also captures those spectacular Sydney views and can seat up to 20 guests.

Purchased in April 2016, The East Village Sydney marks the second pub to the Goodtime Hospitality Group, co-founded by James Bodel and Locky Paech who recently completed the extensive refurbishment of the newly acclaimed West Village in Petersham. The purchase of East Village was an important part of Goodtimes’ growth and gave the pair the opportunity to focus on some serious talent acquisition.
