Today's guest on Crossing the Line is Martin ‘Fletch’ Fletcher. 3pm Tuesdays on Eastside Radio 89.7FM.
He and his teammates will attempt the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge as part of Team Rowed Less Travelled. This event is the world’s toughest rowing challenge, 5000km of unaided rowing across the Atlantic Ocean - more people have been in space than have successfully rowed across the Atlantic!
... In December 2019, Fletch and his teammates Cam Mostyn, Ryan Grace and Nick Sargent will leave La Gomera in the Canary Islands and aim to land on the shores of Antigua 30 to 45 days later. In doing so, they hope to raise $500,000 for the Black Dog Institute.
Fletch is an avid surfer, mountaineer and adventure enthusiast. He has climbed numerous peaks across the world, and competed in multiple triathlons, an Ironman and the Yukon River Quest, a 715Km Kayak race on the Alaskan/Canadian border.
You can follow their campaign on Instagram @rowed_less_travelled_2019
Fletch chats to GT about his history of endurance sports, his motivation to row an ocean, and what the team will have to do just to get to the start line.

Tune in now to hear Monday Drive's Ruth Hessey chat to Juan Carmona about his music and his upcoming performance with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra! 89.7FM or stream live via eastsidefm.org

What does Ruth from Monday Drive do all day at the Total Environment Centre? Well one project is for schools to create a new generation of conscious consumers! This video is the dress rehearsal of one of the schools out at Emu plains where the 'trashion' couture they have created is AWESOME
If you have an hour to spare on Tuesday pop out to Sydney Olympic Park to see the schools compete with their highly dramatic 'trashion' statements!

Be sure to catch Freedom Jazz Dance this Saturday from 2pm as we look back on the music of Randy Weston. Peter assures us he's got enough music for 4 hours before he even opens his mouth!

If you've still got some spare time in your life after today's recommendations and haven't yet explored the dark side of the American Dream than podcast Dirty John is a must. With sinister themes of self promotion, drug addiction, psychological manipulation and taking rather than earning this addictive series ends in an explosive climax that will have you literally looking over your shoulder for that ex-partner you're sure could have been a deadly stalker!

User

The most interesting, well researched and fascinating insight into musical trends, historical artists and pop culture. A real long player too with an interesting turn in the tail to bring it all together. Think you know music? Think again!

Crime is to podcasts what pornography is to the internet. It's everywhere. That said, there are numerous examples of good and bad ones to follow. Crime Junkie is an excellent podcast produced by two buffs who retell crime with perfectly balanced enthusiasm and scepticism. Plus, they are constantly providing tips and ways in which you can prevent or act accordingly in the event of a crime. For the listener who looks at everyone in the street as a potential criminal! https://crimejunkiepodcast.com/

The Teacher's Pet. An expose of the institutionalised sexual assault of school kids by predatory teachers on the Northern Beaches in the 70's. Oh, and an unsolved murder and police coverup to add to the shock of the affair...worth persevering through it's length and often repetitiveness. https://www.theaustralian.com.au/the-teac hers-pet

Slow Burn's first season was on Nixon and Watergate and was literally a slow burn. That's not to say that Season 2 is any quicker but there's something more contemporary, alluring and relevant to the current state of American politics when they look into the Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky affair. Highly recommended to see where acceptance of a philandering leader first developed...

Brilliant tales of murder, corruption, sex, drugs, and rock n roll, wonderfully voiced as though the artist was telling you the words themselves, truth vs fiction and all the while never letting it get in the way of a good story. This is a podcast for lovers of music and crime! (be sure to check out the Motley Crue one!!!) https://www.disgracelandpod.com/

Incredible. Emotional. Frightening and empowering. The brutal honesty and courage that goes into this podcast makes Silent Waves a standout from the pack. Quite possibly one of the best we've ever heard...

Crossing the Line - TUESDAY at 3pm, or later at eastsidefm.org/crossingtheline Ed Goddard is making a name for himself across numerous distances in the athletics scene, from 800m to half marathons. Hailing from Mosman, Ed chats to Lorna about the psychology of running and having the mindset to put in the hard yards needed for success, plus how he balances his studies in property economics at UTS with his training for middle distance running. And as usual, we asked Ed to spin us some of the music that inspires him.

We could all do more...don't you think?
