With the windy weather that has been smashing the coast recently, keep an eye out for baby birds who may have fallen from the nest - yes, even the cheeky Minor birds, like little Albert here 🐦

Meet Penny the cheeky golden retriever. Penny, who originally presented to us with a sore hip had such a miraculous recovery from her prescribed anti inflammatory medication that she thought she’d climb onto the kitchen bench and eat them all in one go!! Funny story, yes; but also extremely dangerous. Luckily Penny’s owner brought her straight down to the hospital to see Dr Jesse, and thankfully the amount that Penny had consumed wasn’t toxic enough to cause any significant damage.
Like young children, pets don’t know the difference between medication and treats, so always keep medication out of reach of mischievous paws 🧡

Meet Ullr – or ‘The Bling Cat’ as he’s known around here. Ullr loves bling so much that he thought it might be fun to eat! Luckily, Ullr’s mum and dad noticed the missing ring and were also aware of their cheeky kitten’s fascination of all things bling, so they came down to see Dr Laura right away. Ullr was then admitted for X-rays, which confirmed what Ullr’s owners thought – yes, he swallowed the ring 🙀 Dr Laura preformed an exploratory laparotomy and retrieved the missing jewel, and Ullr has now been discharged from hospital – hopefully the little ginger treasure hunter has learnt his lesson 🐱

Spring babies have arrived!! This adorable little Sugar Glider came into the clinic this morning. He was found cold and lethargic on the side of the road. Thankfully a kindhearted member of the public found him and brought him in and after some TLC with Nurse Cody, he is now safe and sound with a wildlife rehabilitation specialist 😻

“Nope, no one has fed me today and I’m sooooo hungry 😿” ~ Says our clinic cat, Harry to every staff member he sees - hence the numbers on the scales.
But it’s time, summer is coming and poor Harry is on a diet 🙀🙀🙀 and let’s just say he’s far from thrilled about it. How does your pet measure up? Did you know that pet obesity is the highest it’s ever been? And just like an overweight human, an overweight pet can have significant health problems. If you’re concerned about your pet’s weight, chat to our friendly staff; and next time you’re visiting the clinic, DO NOT FEED HARRY no matter what he tells you!!

Mushroom toxicity, yes it’s a real thing.
It happens so fast! One day you and your dog are enjoying your neatly trimmed backyard. The next day, the same area seems to be covered in toadstools-like something out of Super Mario Brothers! 🍄🍄 And then, before you know it, your bouncy puppy has gobbled them up, fungi and all!!
Meet Mack, the 16week old Dalmatian who found himself in this exact situation, last week, which left his owner thinking, ‘Are mushrooms toxic to dogs?’
... The simple answer is: Yes. Because toxic mushrooms can be so tricky to identify, all mushrooms should be considered dangerous.
Thankfully, Mack’s owner contacted us right away and was instructed to bring his puppy into the clinic for immediate veterinary care. After a week of blood testing and treatment, Mack has completed recovered and is back to keeping his family busy with his crazy puppy antics 🐶
