About Ethnic Business Awards Foundation

Celebrating diversity, multiculturalism and achievement since 1988

Ethnic Business Awards Foundation Description

Australia’s longest running Awards for commercial endeavour, the Ethnic Business Awards continue to celebrate and recognise the achievements of all Australians, be they the first Australians or new migrants. They also continue to recognise and reward the valuable and innovative contribution of migrants made to Australian business and economy.

The Ethnic Business Awards highlight Australia as a key destination to create and sustain business across all sectors of industry no matter what race, colour, religion, language and cultural background.

The Ethnic Business Awards continue to break new ground, both geographically and culturally. They also continue to celebrate and reward business success in this vast and culturally diverse land that is Australia.

The commitment and enthusiasm of our Sponsors, particularly our founding partner, the National Australia Bank are hardly surprising.

The compelling stories of resilience, ingenuity and enterprise that are
charted by the Awards are truly inspiring and have originated from
every state and territory, with hundreds of nominations coming
from a vast amount of different countries of origin.

The Ethnic Business Awards continue to provide a unique and
prestigious recognition for many Australians who have followed their
dreams and overcome hardship to accomplish well deserved success.
The Awards continue to provide unique and prestigious recognition for many Australians who have followed their dreams and overcome hardship to accomplish well deserved success.

In 2019 we become a foundation and it is with pride that we go forward as a recognized charity and not for profit foundation. The future looks bright for us and all that take the journey with us.

The Ethnic Business Awards are proud of their 29-year history of inspirational stories...
The birth of her second child made Terri more than aware that she wanted to do something that would make her children proud. And that is exactly what she did. Starting as a sole trader focusing on Intellectual Property Law with one international client, Terri Janke and Company Pty Ltd continued strongly into providing specialist advice in law and cultural matters and in 2012 got onto the Attorney General’s Legal Service Multi Use list. As a growing and expanding business Terri has several awards under her belt already and is looking to pursue large government contracts to expand her business horizons.

According to Italian immigrant, Tony Schiavello, we have no boundaries, anything is possible, no project is too challenging. With that ethos in mind, Tony, along with his younger brother Joe, founded his business in 1966 supplying and installing office partitions for Melbourne businesses. Today the family-owned business is a multi-disciplinary, global organisation and a recognised world ...leader in the design, manufacture and construction of whole-of-workplace systems and solutions. Founded on the principles of innovation, quality and service excellence, Schiavello is underpinned by the family’s entrepreneurial ability, and its passion, energy and drive to continually deliver the best possible solutions and outcomes for clients.

After returning to visit her home land Colombia in 2005, Jacqueline vowed to not only bring the flavour of amazing coffee to Australia República Organic – but to do it organically and ethically. Leaving behind the fast-paced life of a journalist, she set about being the only Australian coffee company to have all their products 100% certified organic and fair trade. Born of political refugees, Jacqueline arrived in Australia at the tender age of 8, and today is the Ambassador for great coffee with great ethics served and enjoyed by major companies and countless Australians.

Sebastian migrated to Australia as a 4-year-old boy. Whilst struggling through school he learnt the virtue of hard work from his father. By selling his father’s home grown produce, Sebastian developed sales skills as a 12-year-old which later became invaluable when starting Galipo Foods in 1983. What began with a one tonne truck & a few domestic fridges/freezers in a home garage, has ...grown into a ‘One Stop Shop’ for the Foodservice Industry employing 120 people. Sebastian is extremely proud of his loyal, wonderful staff. With a fleet of 36 trucks, Galipo Foods deliver over 6,500 different food products to businesses throughout South Australia.

Christophe was always in the hospitality industry since he was 19. Hospitality drew him to London from his country of birth, France. And it was in London that he was enticed by two Aussie entrepreneurs to join them in a Sydney restaurant/cocktail bar/club. Christophe fell in love with Australia and 8 years later he is still here.
Seeing that Sydney had a gap in the market for more night...life options, he and his business partner Karl Schlothauer jumped on a licence opportunity and have now branched into a six-venue strong portfolio between New South Wales and Paris bringing unique venues with great atmosphere and innovative menus without the pretentious feel that often comes from a cocktail bar Pocket bar.

Bombs, fighter jets, death and destruction were what 10-year-old Sam Bashiry left behind in Iran when he fled to Australia with his mother and sister. Even “safe” on Australian soil, they endured two years inside a detention centre till they were allowed a “normal life”. His life of adversity gave him the courage and determination to push on through his education and his Computer Science... degree. Growing and developing at the same time as the era of the IT trend, Sam started his IT journey as an employee at an IT Help Desk. Venturing into his own business, Broadband Solutions, turned a $1000 ambition to a multi-million dollar business in just 10 years.

The Ethnic Business Awards are well beyond just an Award. It is an institution of recognition and celebration of this nation's greatest success story.. of the migrants that have grown and nurtured this great land and of the first and traditional owners of the land. It is a tribute to their endeavors and achievements and the recognition of the hard work it takes to get there. Joseph and Angela Assaf and the EBA Team are an open family - who continue to welcome and celebrate the success stories that have made and continue make the Ethnic Business Awards what they are today.
