According to the 2001 Census, the population of the Fairfield LGA was 182, 171 persons, males accounting for 49. 9% and females at 50% . The current boundaries of the LAC are coterminous with that of the LGA.

Residents come from 97 different countries and speak up to 134 languages and dialects. Of the Fairfield population 53% were born overseas with the majority being from non- English speaking backgrounds. Italy, China, Yugoslavia, UK, Croatia, the Philippines, and Lebanon are the major overseas countries of birth.

About 66% speak a language other then English, with about 30% speaking little or no English. In 33% of homes a language other the English is spoken, with Vietnamese, Chinese and Spanish the frequent.

Almost 38% of the population are under the age of 24 years and it is known to be an area for migrants to first establish residence with their young families. The 25 to 49 year age group accounts for 37% of the population.
