At FFMPU, we talk a lot about the importance of self-care. We have recently had the resource, 'Healthier Happier Together', brought to our attention by a family member who helped create it. This resource contains lots of information and links and creative ways on how to take care of ourselves. Please go to: https://indd.adobe.com/…/0494fc82-a562- 4ffd-a5b1-0efefcf826…
There is a link to FFMPU on page 20 of this resource. We would like to thank families for continuing to share with us resources and information that might assist others.

This is the last post I write as the Coordinator of Families and Friends of Missing Persons Unit. I leave FFMPU today after more than 8 years, knowing I leave behind a team of committed professionals who will continue to work with family members and friends.
My time at FFMPU has been challenging, rewarding and an ongoing learning experience. I have witnessed the gamut of human emotions and hope that, as a team, we've made a small difference for those left behind; so that the...ir experience has been a little less overwhelming, confusing and lonely.
On another note...
Thank you to those who attended our NMPW support group meeting on 8 August 2018. The overriding sentiment was one of empathy and support for others in a similar situation, while dealing with their individual experiences of grief and loss. Family members and friends spoke of the positive impact of attending, even in the midst of sadness and tears. As they left they spoke of feeling “energised”, “courageous” and “determined to make things better, if not for (themselves) -other families”.
Thank you to all those left behind for your courage every day. As National Missing Persons Week comes to a close, take some time to care for yourself and those around you. Liz, Stephanie and Tricia, the FFMPU team.

It's Monday of National Missing Persons Week, as family members and friends with missing loved ones are only too well aware; however, it's possible that in parts of the wider community this important week may pass unnoticed.
Spread the word and raise awareness.

The FFMPU support group meeting next week is an opportunity to acknowledge and honour missing loved ones and the families they leave behind.
It is also an opportunity to meet other family members who share similar experiences.
It is not too late to rsvp if you would like to attend, and we look forward to welcoming you.

Bringing families together to acknowledge and remember missing loved ones is part of FFMPU's core business each and every day.
It is important that those who are left behind have a voice and are recognised, knowing that they and missing loved ones are not overlooked or forgotten.
It is for this reason we have invited families and friends with missing loved ones to join the FFMPU team in Parramatta during National Missing Persons Week for a support group meeting. (See our pos...t from 18 July and please RSVP if you're coming along).
If you're aware of other events taking place, please let the FFMPU team know and we will help to spread the word.

What have you done today to take care of yourself?
It doesn't have to be huge, cost money or sound cool.
A phone conversation and a reminder from a family member who will remain anonymous (of course) that it's International Stress Down Day.
... She has chosen to take care of herself and stress down by staying at home, in the warm, in her pj's.
Please let us know what you did today to take care of you?

The FFMPU team is planning a support group meeting during National Missing Persons Week.
When: Wednesday 8 August 2018 10.30 to 12 midday (followed by a light lunch).
... Where: Justice Precinct Offices, Parramatta.
Invitations via email and post are on their way.
Family members and friends are warmly invited even if this might be your first attendance at an FFMPU support group.
Please RSVP to the FFMPU team for catering and security purposes; for more details; or if you haven't received an invitation by Tuesday 24 July.
The invitation includes a small image of an artwork by Kerry Thompson, who wrote 'A Sister's Story' about her missing brother. Kerry painted 'Hey Drop Me a Line' for her brother, and explains why in her 'Story'.
