September 11 marks a very sad day in U.S. and international history. Together with all Australian firefighters and emergency services workers, we pay our greatest respects to the 412 emergency workers, of which 343 were firefighters, that the world so sadly lost in New York City on that fateful day. We remember them today, we will remember them tomorrow, and they will never be forgotten.

A great outcome from our Westerly neighbours last night. Fire & Rescue NSW crews from Picton Fire & Rescue Station 421 Fire and Rescue NSW Station 008 Liverpool & FRNSW Station 378 Mittagong were all involved in the technical rescue of 2 miners trapped in a cage lift. Thankfully the miners received no injuries & surfaced from the 160 meter deep cage after around 8 hours.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends and colleagues of 365014 Deputy Captain Graham Pertzel of 365 Station Lockhart who passed away following a car accident Friday.
Our thoughts also extend to Graham's wife who was also injured.

Fire & Rescue NSW Station 474 Unanderra currently on scene at Port Kembla harbour for a 6th alarm fire in an Iron Ore ship. Crews from the Illawarra & all over Sydney on scene as well as backfilling Illawarra stations to maintain fire coverage. The incident is expected to continue all day.

How cold is it?? We have just finished our weekly hydrant checks & it was freezing!
With a cold snap predicted over the next few days, Fire & Rescue is urging residents to take every precaution to avoid a fire in the home. Here's a few tips to follow:
- Keep everything one metre away from your heater.... - Install and use as per manufacturer’s instructions. - If you suspect a fault, have the heater serviced or replaced. - Always supervise young children in rooms with open fires or working heaters. - Ensure flues and chimneys are regularly cleaned. - Strong fire screens should be set up in front of open fires. - Never use wheat bags in bed.

While you were sleeping. At 0520hrs this morning, the crew from 474 were called to a car fire near Western Suburbs Swimming Pool. Our pump arrived in just under 7 minutes to find a Holden Commodore fully involved with fire. One of 474’s finest in Breathing Apparatus (BA) made short work of the fire & the crew returned to station a short time later.
