Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is recruiting men and women to train and work as retained firefighters on a part-time 'on call' basis at Riverstone Fire Station. You will be paid an hourly rate for attending incidents, training sessions, and community education activities.
Riverstone fire station will respond to emergencies 24 hours a day but is not permanently staffed. Retained firefighters are 'on call' to respond to fires and other emergency incidents in their community.
Retaine...d firefighters are a diverse group of men and women who balance other work and family commitments, but enjoy being part of a team and working with people and other emergency services.
Some of the requirements of being a Retained Firefighter are that:
- You must have week day availability to respond to fires and emergency incidents to suit Riverstone Fire Station requirements;
- You must have a current NSW driver's licence;
- You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia;
- You must live and/or work within a reasonable distance of the Riverstone Fire Station to respond promptly to emergency incidents.

Keep your family safe this winter by NEVER using outdoor heaters, barbecues or charcoal pits inside your home. LPG, heat beads and the like emit lethal carbon monoxide which can be fatal in a confined space. For more information, visit fire.nsw.gov.au/winter. #PreparedForAnything #AnyoneAnywhereAnytime.

Before you reach for the heater, turn on the electric blanket or cook up a winter warmer this weekend, check out these essential winter fire safety tips.
Chief Superintendent Mick Morris featured on Ch 9 this morning, offering viewers advice on how to avoid fire dangers in every room of the house this winter. Focusing on everything from hair straighteners to wheat bags, this clip has you covered. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable.

Last night Riverstone Firefighters attended a joint training exercise with Windsor Fire and Rescue Station 81. As neighbouring brigades we attend a numerous amount of structure fires together. Conducting drills together increases our combined capability when responding to incidents. This drill included firefighters donning breathing apparatus, incident management techniques, first arriving attack and many other roles we complete at an incident. #frnsw #riverstone

Last night at approximately 2100 hours Riverstone Firefighters were called to an unknown fire at the Riverstone Meatworks along Riverstone Parade. Upon observation Riverstone Firefighters discovered the actual fire was on Farm Road, Riverstone but was seen so far away because of the height of the flames. Once the location of the fire was identified Riverstone Firefighters discovered a very large pile burn and called for the NSW Rural Fire Service and police. Once Plumpton Rural Fire Brigade and Schofields Bushfire Brigade arrived the incident was handed over to them.

Tonight Riverstone firefighters had the guys and girls from Lantrak - NSW cook us Schofields Bushfire Brigade and NSW Ambulance up a storm to show their appreciation for the community. This is one of the many amazing things that Lantrak does to give back to the community. Lantrak donates truckloads of toys to local hospitals, feed the homeless and recognise the goodwill in local community groups.

Whilst you were sleeping at midnight until morning today Riverstone Firefighters were busy working at a ship fire in Port Kembla. Riverstone Firefighters assisted in fire duty using hose relays to help put out the ship fire that has been burning for a few days now.

Make sure your family is prepared for anything this cold snap. Cleaning out the lint filter in your clothes dryer before each use will help reduce the risk of a fire. If a fire does occur, get out, stay out and call triple zero ‘000’. For more fire safety tips visit fire.nsw.gov.au/winter. #PreparedForAnything #Loseyourlint

It was a busy evening for firefighters at Riverstone Fire & Rescue. Firstly at approximately 1614 hours Riverstone firefighters were called to a yard fire in Schofields where upon arrival firefighters found an illegal fire. Riverstone firefighters extinguished the fire and advised the resident of the regulations. Once Riverstone Firefighters were back at station the bells went off for an unknown fire in Box Hill were upon arrival firefighters found a large pile of mulch alig...ht. With the assistance of Bulk water tankers from the Hills RFS and other units Rouse Hill Rural Fire Brigade Round Corner Rural Fire Brigade and Box Hill Nelson Rural Fire Brigade we all worked together to put the fire out and handed over. On our way back to the station Riverstone Firefighters discovered an unattended fire in Grantham Estate we extinguished and then returned back to the station.

Tonight Riverstone Firefighters visited our neighbours at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 063 Blacktown to check out their new technical rescue appliance. A huge thanks to A platoon for having us and sharing their experience with us so we can all work better at incidents together.

Yesterday firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service were responded to a grass fire in Macquarie Park Windsor.
First arriving fire crews from Fire & Rescue NSW Station 082 Richmond were confronted with a large area of grass alight with possible people trapped on the beach.
Given the potential for the rapid fire spread fanned by strong winds and unknown number of persons on the beach additional fire appliances from Fire & Rescue NSW Station 081 Windsor.... , Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone, Wilberforce Rural Fire Brigade and Freemans Reach Rural Fire Brigade were called.
Hawkesbury Police Area Command evacuated everyone off the beach whilst fire crews contained the blaze.
Once contained the scene was handed over to NSW RFS - Hawkesbury District.
It was a great collaborative effort by all services in attendance and is a testament to the strong working relationship by emergency services in the Hawkesbury.
It is however a timely reminder that whilst temperatures may be getting cooler a lack of rain has seen record dryness. Bush and grass fires are still occurring.
We urge residents to ensure they don't become complacent, have a bushfire survival plan and that their properties are prepared and maintained.
Further information on bushfire preparedness can be found by visiting https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepa re
We are prepared for anything are you?
