Focus Movement Therapy is a progressive Physiotherapy practice and boutique Pilates studio currently based in Charlestown. We will soon be moving to 4 /125 Bull St Newcastle West. We are a team of Physiotherapists, Exercise Science professionals and fully qualified Pilates instructors who are passionate about getting people to move well and move often. Our goal is always to ensure rehabilitation of injury beyond pain relief to optimise function and ensure a durable return to activity. Whether your goal is to run further and faster, lift heavier or simply to move or perform better, our holistic approach to injury rehabilitation will help guide you there.

The Pilates Method

The Pilates Method is a non-impact fitness routine with an emphasis on gaining flexibility, strength, balance and co-ordination. Pronounced “pil-lah-tees” this unique method was developed in the early 1900’s by Joseph Pilates. During World War I Joseph Pilates redesigned hospital beds by adding springs and pulleys for the injured to exercise. This equipment became the Pilates equipment used today.
Popular with the dance industry and Hollywood stars, Pilates is a safe and effective way to stretch, strengthen and tone your body without adding bulk and stressing the joints.

The Pilates method is a non impact form of exercise that focuses on developing physical characteristics such as:
• core strength and stability
• balance and coordination
• increased flexibility
• increased muscular tone and endurance
• improved posture and alignment
• enhanced athletic performance

I have been seeing Aleisha Pobre at Focus for approx 6 months and doing Pilates and my back feels better than it has done in years I have made real progress when I had nearly given up and would reccomend Aleisha and Erik to anyone who is in pain, needs reabilitation or just wants to be healthy!

If you want to not only sort your body out, but also learn a whole lot about why you are feeling how you're feeling and how to manage it along the way - then these are THE people to see! After visiting a range of other health professionals, Aleisha as my physio is more than invested in my goals and has something new to teach me every session. I've been able to go from constant discomfort and poor movement patterns while training to managing daily training sessions and now having more than enough tools to manage myself when things play up.

All of the Pilates instructors are fantastic and are clued in to your own personal strengths and weaknesses so that your individualised programs are what works best for you.

Aleisha is my favourite person right now!! She has managed to reduce my pain to nil, and gotten my mobility and strength back to normal after a very painful neck and shoulder injury. I have been having regular appointments with her since April and am now back to my pre injury exercise routine. I highly recommend seeing Erik from Focus Physio & Pilates. For the past 15 years I have had lower and upper back pain and discomfort. Erik has identified the cause of my back problems and has offered long term solutions for recovery. Erik is extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to visit ;)
