Working with colors. If you are looking for inspiration, a fruit and vegetable market has plenty to give. The mangoes gave me the starting point for this image; i just followed the color scheme created by Mother Nature. The table surface is rustic, the ceramic plate is glossy; they react differently to light - contrast is needed. Plenty of it in the salad, with highlights pushed to the max but still all the details are present. The pepper grinder picks up the deep red of the currants and adds yet another tone of " gold " yellow to the scheme.

Overhead? When and why? Who is a fan?
Busy scene? directional light creates a nice contrast and helps you point the viewer's attention to the main subject

SATURDAY 20TH JUNE @ Milano Torino RESTAURANT , SYDNEY
Working with back light. These are some images of take away food, i did for a client of mine ... so the food is what it is, we did our best to revive it :)
One basic food styling trick to photograph meat would be to under cook it, so it doesn't shrink down or get too " brown " and dark... However, I cooked this steak through, because i wanted to also capture the chef carving it and I wanted to show off the perfectly cooked meat, medium rare as it should be, nice and pink. Tricks help, but it's also nice to show things for what they really are, don't you agree?
My 3 ingredients for great food photography: - grey card x correct white balance - good natural light - fast glass for great ( small ) depth of field
Directional light = great contrast = mood #dariomilano #foodphotography #foodstyling #milanotorino #sydney
