Gallery Aurora

Heya luvlies! So we have worked with female artist, GBLTQ artists, disabled artists, Aboriginal artists and generally othered and diverse artist who are all doing work that challenges norms. We have exhibited artists regardless of education, degrees, class or reputation. Sadly this city appears to have changed dramatically in terms of its love for artist run spaces, for DIY and independent spaces. Partly cos the price of living has gone up and everyone is hustling to pay ren...t, partly because of mentality being slowly changed by the arts being cut down to dependency on gov funding..is it the lock out laws..is it netflix...or is there something else going on in this old ghostly city. How many of you have been meaning to make it to Gallery Aurora this last year but have not?...how many of you have been in your own bubble in the spinning hectic vortex of Sydney... How many of you have missed the exhibitions and events featuring important often unheard voices that Gallery Aurora has given platform to.... subject matter, exhibitions and artists that may not get shown in big/gov funded gallery or in the boys club inner city spaces....how many of you have just dropped in for a show that is about your specific community and not come through and experienced and learn from others?.....
Well good news is ya have 2 chances left to come see two amazing shows at Gallery Aurora!!!! They are both around the subject matter of Mental Health-a really important taboo issue that should be talked about more openly in all our communities. Each one is open for a week. We still have 2 large private studios and 1 open studio available now @Aurora! See pictures of the spaces with more details below as well as everything else you will have access to in our communal creative spaces. This includes communal tool bench & tools, outdoor and indoor chill out area and access to our commercial gallery shopfront as a exhibition, workshop free for you to use for your own creative endeavours when the shopfront is not in use. Gallery Aurora invites you to a our 2018 gallery warming event MOMENTARY. A one night exhibition showcasing the artist in studio residency. We are lucky enough to have a eclectic collection of creatives making work in our studios. We want to welcome you to their practice as well as welcome you to a new year of exhibitions.
All of the works are centred around Ephemerality, the concept of things being transitory, existing only briefly. These works either reflect temporal subject matter or are actually temporal themselves. Works that are intentionally made to last for only a temporary period. Because different people may value the passage of time differently, "the concept of ephemerality is a relative one.
The studio Artists have come together to give you a night of interactive and playful work that is both sensory and conceptual. There is a sense of humour and a candid nature in this fleeting exhibition that is sure to put a smile on your face. There will be interactive installations and unconventional presentations of different mediums. This reflects the broad range of Artist that are part of the vibrant community that is Gallery Aurora and Studios. Come meet and hang out with our Artists as well as see the space if you have not yet.

States of UnWest is a vibrant and tender solo exhibition by Nada DeCat that will run from the 15th-28th of Feb 2018. It is a celebration and reflection of marginalised identity through carefully rendered representational oil paintings. Using a rich assemblage of memory, photos, words, history, politics, dreams, feelings, and the immediacy of observance by painting from life she works from a non-hierarchical and non-dualistic understanding of inner and outer manifestation.
