About us

The Geoarchaeology and Archaeometry Research Group (GARG) at Southern Cross University focuses on the interaction between human and past human populations and their environment at the time.

GARG is part of the international acclaimed research centres in geochemistry at Southern Cross University, which has received in the past five years with the Excellences in Research Australia (ERA ranking http://www. arc. gov. au /era /) the mention “well above world standard”.

Our Research staff, technician, and students are active in geochronology, geochemistry, climate dynamics, geomorphology, geophysics, paleoenvironment and classical archaeology.

GARG provides unique opportunities in study and research in the field of geoarchaeology and archaeometry. We encourage interdisciplinary approaches to research, both within the department of Geoscience and through interdepartmental programs.

The modern infrastructure at SCU constantly growing offers advanced facilities, laboratories and expertise. Our staff research interests focus on European, Asian, African and Australian geochronology, social archaeology, palaeoenvironment, archaeometry and geoarchaeology.
