I can completely understand the wait time for a general medical practice. The reception staff try their best to deal with this issue as best they can.
However, yesterday I had a horrible experience. I was lucky to only wait 20 mins... but was abruptly told by a male doctor to ‘go in there!’... no hello, no smile, no warmth whatsoever. I was already incredibly nervous about being there in the first place.
I was at the doctors to discuss some sensitive info and he couldn’t wait to get me out of the office quick enough. His first line was, ‘why u here? Issue?’ ... I tried to explain my injury, and he cut me off multiple times during my short explanation rolling his eyes and in frustration that I was taking more than 15 seconds to explain. He then wrote a script said ‘u need a scan’... didn’t tell me what, where or how to do that- just shoved the paper at me, then he got up to leave and I had to ask him to please sit back down as I needed to discuss several other issues. Without going into detail, I needed to speak with him about some sensitive issues that required a little care and some interest/ understanding - what I got was that he could wait to finish the consult, absolute zero understanding or empathy and a feeling that my problems that I had come to discuss were not important and NO CARE FACTOR. It took me weeks to build the courage to get to the doctors to even sit in the waiting room ready to discuss some of these issues. I also work in a high stresss environment and pull 15 hour days, I never ever treat people with the utter dis respect I was shown yesterday. I have used the practice on several occasions and understand how they need to be brief but effective and there is lots of people waiting, but at the end of the day -they are still doctors who have a job and that job entails caring for people. I unfortunately will never ever accept another consult with this particular male Asian doctor ever again... As it took me weeks to get the courage to make the apt, only to be smashed with dis respect and absolute rudeness and a lack of empathy and listening skills. Very very very poor service and lack of human compassion. Maybe if doctors are having a BAD DAY there, they should go home, rather than inflict such a horrible experience in a patient.

Still waiting after 2 1/2hrs. I was told a 40 min wait on their website. Insanely poor service. EDIT - at least the doctor was lovely when I finally got to see her.

The receptionist was lovely and very helpful. Female doctor stayed back almost an hour late to see me!

I just spent nearly 2.5 hrs or over waiting to see a Doctor, but the cheeky dark haired receptionist told me over an hour, no longer, but yet everyone who came in well after me, were seeing the Doctor's, the waiting room was nearly empty and I was still waiting and waiting and waiting. Pretty sure this girl took offense to me asking why it was taking so long after 2 and a bit hours and just kept putting my name to the bottom of the pile, she was smirking as I walked out not seeing anyone, disgusting, disgusting behaviour, 5 years of going there and never, ever will I go back. You should be ashamed of this Receptionist's behaviour

Myself and my family have been attending Gateway Medical Centre for many years, and have always had positive experiences not just from the Doctors on duty, but all reception and nursing staff. In particular, our family will see Dr Patapis who has been treating our family and young son for the past seven years since his birth. “Dr Betty” as my son affectionately calls her is always pleasant and attentive when we visit with any sickness or health concerns, and after seeing her we walk away confident that our health is in the best hands. I would have no hesitation in recommending Dr Patapis and her colleagues at Gateway Medical Centre.

NEVER have I been as mistreated as I was at the place...I had an appointment & was kept waiting for 45mins whilst the doctor who was supposed to see me he was on the phone! THEN after requesting to see another doctor, that doctor didn't complete my medical form & I was forced to go back after work then to be confronted by an extremely rude & abrupt lady indian doctor!! This place should be closed down...

I have been waiting 6 months to see a dr only to be told that my appointment wasnt scheduled in, a misshap of the reception staff. If they squeezed me in that would have been fine but i was then told there is nothing available for another 4 months. I am very dissapointed with the way i was treated, no one took responsibility for their mistake or tried to accomodate me. I would not recommend this medical center to anyone!

I had a very positive experience here yesterday. After joking with the reception staff "can you please install a new eye for me?" I was referred initially to a nurse who was able to fix the problem immediately - she removed a grass tic in my (very swollen) eye.

Those complaining on here about wait times etc may not be considering that this is one of very few "bulk billing" practices around these days, which does create a lot of demand - hence the wait times. The amount they make out of Medicare doesn't deliver huge profits either - so you can't expect a 30 minute consultation.

The doctors I have seen here over 4 or 5 visits have all been extremely knowledgeable and professional and given me the time to answer any questions.

Go in with the right attitude - and that includes the desk staff - and you will be treated with mutual respect.

I have been plenty of times, I never enjoy the typically long waits - caused by the volume of patients to be seen.
I have never had a bad doctor, or one I would consider bad. They have always taken me seriously and had time to answer my questions, even though they are clearly trying to get through people.
The reception staff are fine, dealing with a lot of patients who do get frustrated with the long waits (who doesn't when sick).
There has been a need for a 2nd medical centre in the area for a while - this and the hospital just cannot keep up.

Bad business management - lacks doctors on call and unmanageable wait times. There are more admin staff than doctors. Admin tries to look busy while patients accumulates. Staff aware of problem & compensates by acting non-chalant & rude.

The counter staff at this place are dreadful. When told the wait would be over an hour I returned in 30 minutes to find mine name had been called. So then to the end of the line again to wait for another 2 hours. Counter staff blamed the doctors, some going home. If you try to judge time for yourself do not rely on the doctors listed on the board. These are not updated by the counter staff so you have no idea how many are available. Counter staff provide wrong information to the customer so beware!

Great doctors; I have a regular GP at Newport Medical Centre but they don't bulk bill and have long wait times, so I use this centre when I have an emergency or I'm low on funds. I dropped in on a visit home when I had bronchitis... the doctor was so kind. Best to go at 7 am if you can, but I find they're always pretty fast. The receptionists are also excellently trained.
