Grafton Gliding Club Description
NOTICE: As of the 30 /7 /17 Grafton Gliding club has ceased operations until a new site has been located. Grafton Gliding Club was been flying in the Clarence Valley since the early 1970’s. We are a small but passionate group of flyers; our members include highly experienced, well qualified and seasoned pilots, to our youngest pilot who recently flew his first solo flight before starting his HSC studies.
GGC flies ever Saturday (weather permitting) from our airstrip on Gliding Club Road, Waterview Heights. We launch our gliders by winch up to about 1200’ and then soar away, often with the local Wedge Tailed Eagles. The view is spectacular to the east across South Grafton to the sea, west up the Clarence River to the ranges and south beyond Shannon Dam and Coutts Crossing. The relaxed sense of flying on a bubble of rising air is both fun and thrilling.
Passenger flights are $90. This includes temporary Student Membership of the Gliding Federation Australia, valid for 9 days.
To fly gliders recreationally the pilot will spend about $1000 per year for unlimited flying time in GGC gliders and includes winch launches, training & instruction, GGC & GFA memberships, licences & insurances.
