THE BEGINNING:

The Collective Sydney began GREEN BEATS back in September of 2005, in a desperate attempt to save The Petersham Bowling Club from immediate closure. The club was losing money, and property developers circled above wanting to turn this beautiful and historic club into distasteful ‘Mediterranean style’ apartments. As avid lawn bowlers (on Sundays at least) The Collective could not let this happen, and decided to take matters into their own hands.

After 13 highly successful events over 2 years, the Petersham Bowling Club still stands almost solely due to the support of Green Beats attendees, with events attracting up to 300 people over 12 hours on a Sunday, and therefore putting substantial money over the club’s bar, bistro and many a bowl down the bowling green!

THE PAST:

After facing noise complaints and subsequently unreasonable restrictions by the club, (all of which was caused by a very small number of overly vocal, selfish and abusive local residents at Petersham) Green Beats took to the road, moving to the open space of Brighton le Sands Bowling Club for Australia Day 2007, where hundreds enjoyed a perfect summer day, and a multi-stage event featuring Mark Pritchard, Jimmy Sing and many others!

In Summer 2008 /09 we moved it to Marrickville Bowling Club for 3 successful monthly events, but unfortunately our large crowd dancing on the green in the twilight to Farj from Garage Pressure was enough to have the members in a bit of a tizzy, and we had to find another more suitable venue.

In 2010, Green Beats was welcomed with open arms to the Camperdown Bowling Club. Green Beats Australia Day 2010 was a massive success, with over 400 people enjoying the lawn bowls, Flying Taco Mexican Food and diverse music from local favourites Rephrase, Farj, Altay Altin and many more on a steaming hot summer day.

Green Beats Australia Day 2011 was the biggest, hottest, and easily the MOST FUN EVENT SO FAR, with over 500 people enjoying Brothers Cider, Beanbags, Flying Taco and most importantly, an incredible and diverse line-up including legends Itch-E & Scratch-E, James De La Cruz, Typhonic, Dazed + Flawlezz, Jack Shit, Prize, Sunday Dub Club DJs, Foreign Dub DJs, and The Collective Djs. The day was a huge success, and continued the constant rise and rise of our little event. Unfortunately the club decided not to pay Brothers Cider for the stock, which is unacceptable business acumen for us. Onto greener pastures again……

2012 saw the inaugural event at our permanent home the COOGEE BOWLO! The lineup was the biggest yet with Peewee Ferris, Mailer Daemon, Smokin' Joe Mekhael, Tyson Koh, Kate Doherty, Tactical Aspect, Discoloop, Foreign Dub DJs, Sunday Dub Club DJs, and the Collective DJs! The day also saw the largest crowd of any event so far, and a perfect venue for Green Beats!
