A rumala that is no longer used for the SGGS is only a piece of cloth that can be used for other purposes. Only the rumale with gurbani or khanda symbol need to be disposed off respectfully. In the modern world where we promote sustainability, this practice of burning perfectly beautiful rumalas is insane. Sikhs need to think of Guru Nanak and what he would have said about this wastage.
