A huge congratulations to local up & coming artists, Kanisha Storer & Zhali West who won our recent IAC Art Comp.!!!
"Our painting represents how the Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation has evolved over the years.... After speaking with my mum, nan, & elders in our community, I now know that the IAC was once just a little house in Kenny St. Wollongong, with very limited services available for our people. Over time, hard work & dedication from Aboriginal elders, our generation now has the support from the IAC & the current services available, which include : - Housing - Aged Care - Child Care - Emergency Relief - Employment & Training - Child, Youth, & Family Services The bright yellow sun represents happiness, which has guided our elders to continue fighting for our community & our people. Each pathway leads to the programs which have evolved over the years. The blue dots underneath the sun represent our coastal surroundings & environment." - Zhali & Kanisha
Their winning entry, 'Evolution' will be featured from here on, so keep an eye out for it.
