Hammondcare Braeside Hospital Description
Braeside Hospital is a 72 bed public hospital that provides inpatient, outpatient and community services. Our specialised health and community services for the residents of south western Sydney include rehabilitation, palliative care and older persons' mental health.
Rehabilitation:
Comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and day hospital services for patients who are experiencing a wide range of disabilities that include those following stroke, joint replacement, lower limb amputation or fractures. The overall goal of rehabilitation is to enable people to live as full and independent lifestyle as possible within their own environment.
Services provided include a 36-bed inpatient unit, outpatient clinics and a day hospital.
Palliative Care:
A comprehensive service for those diagnosed with a life threatening illness when relief from symptoms or pain management may be required. Our aim is to provide physical, spiritual and emotional comfort, skilled symptom control, education, good communication as well as support for the family both during the final stages of illness and in the bereavement period.
Services provided include a 20-bed inpatient unit, a day hospital, outpatient clinics and after-hours telephone advice for people registered with the palliative care service and also community assessments.
Older Persons' Mental Health:
A comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service for patients with mental health problems including dementia with severe behavioural disturbances or other mental health issues. The aims of the service are to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment, treatment and management of patients with a view to appropriate placement back into the community.
Care is provided for 16 inpatients in a structured and safe environment with mainly single rooms, a lounge /dining and outdoor area for each group of eight patients incorporating special design features to reduce confusion and allow monitoring of difficult behaviours.
