Hands Lane Description

"Hands Lane” is a new range of preserves and food products. The idea for Hands Lane was born out of the laneway named Hands Lane in Surry Hills, in the small and friendly chefs prep room at the back of Single Origin Roasters café.

Friendly because the door’s always open to greet passers-by or inquisitive customers of the scents flowing into the lane. While Hands Lane is a very urban setting, head chef Matt Rothman has his focus on bringing in the best of local and seasonal produce, working with farmer direct from small growers to maximise sustainabilitty and encourage companion planting to minimise food miles. We’re talking Seville oranges for marmalades in spring, tomatoes for chutney in summer and many more seasonal inspired combinations.

The range is prepared in a manner that showcases the seasonal Australian produce it features. Think more fruit, less sugar, and of course no nasty additives. Matt uses the product at its peak ripeness, and aims to minimise time from harvest to cooking to ensure maximum flavour. He also uses a shorter cooking technique, which is why the produce retains better colour and natural flavour.
