Honki Haus Description
WHO ARE WE?
A brother and sister duo who are third generation restauranteurs. Our story began with hand-crafted noodles and congee that filled many hungry stomachs from the 1950s till 2012 in Kowloon, Hong Kong. In the age-old tradition of passing knowledge from one generation to the next, we are here today to bring you everything we love about food from old-fashioned techniques to cooking with heart and soul.
The word ‘Honky’ comes from the Sydney slang that refers to people from Hong Kong. Funny thing is, in America ‘Honky’ is a derogatory term for white people. For this reason, we have taken the word ‘Honki’ from Japanese, which means ‘true’ or ‘serious’, because we are ‘honki’ about providing good food and good experiences.
Welcome to Honki Haus and we hope you enjoy your time with us.
