Having seen the negative comments I have no doubt this dealership acted in a misleading and fraudulent manner to sell me a Hyundai i30. I selected to drive a red i30 SR spec (the only one in their showroom on display). A price was negotiated and accepted and the paper work signed.

The following day on collection doubts arose. The i30 I had test driven had a black protective seal around the underskirt of the car. Driving home I noticed differences with the interior- no polished chrome trimmings, console, gear plate and no boot tray. I drove back and questioned the owner Herbie who replied "this is the one you drove yesterday."

Unknowingly to me I firmly believe my $1k holding deposit was paid to secure a more basic model of the same colour and kms and was not the SR spec car that I test drove.

To top it all off they only included I set of keys- with no battery. I have reported Hornsby Family Cars to Fair trading.

Please don't be put off by the bad reviews. I had a great experience with Colin at Hornsby Family Cars. He was upfront and straight forward. Yes, the car we bought was an ex rental, but it was the cheapest price for a car of that age, km and callibar. We did an NRMA check and the car came back great, only tiny park scratches that are hardly visible, and you can't buy a secondhand car without some. We requested a second Hyundai key and car mats upon purchase and Colin came through. It's been 3 weeks, 300km and had a Hyundai checkup which came up clear. Wanting to thank Colin for our great zippy 2015 Hyundai i30!

Our experience was what we expected, we found the car a Toyota Corolla sports advertised on car sales, it was one of the cheapest for the make, model and km's. We traveled from the Central coast to Hornsby and Colin the owner was polite and straight with us. He is a salesman and good at his job, it is a no frills business, at a no frills location. Unfortunately there was no more price cutting or dealing. But we were already aware that it was one of the best prices on the market both private and car yard. (carfacts history rpt) The car is in excellent condition. We were told up front about any extra costs. We did only receive one key at pick up, which was disappointing, though Colin did say he would try and chase it up. I did not expect any positive news. Two days later I was surprised when he called that he had recovered the second key. I'm posting this as the number of negative comments nearly stopped us from getting a bargain. I then realised that the negative comments were over several years and they must have sold more than several cars. So there must be quite a number of other satisfied customers. Steve & Corina.

BEWARE!!! Purchased a 2013 i30 from this dealership mid last year and would not recommend anyone purchasing a vehicle from this dealership.

When I test drove the car it had a genuine Hyundai key, for some reason that they refused to explain, after I signed the paper work the following week and purchased the car, they handed me a non genuine key. I queried the key and they said the non genuineness key was actually better than a genuine one and not to worry. I also asked why there was only 1 key and they said they had the second one being delivered and to come and pick it up next week.

The next day to key stopped working and I had to manually open the door which activated the alarm for 30 seconds. They seemed to think there was no problem with this but called their auto locksmith to come out and try to fix it. After providing me with a temporary button which also stopped working, the locksmith made up another set of keys for the car. A few months later the keys stopped working again and I had to get the locksmith to come back to fix them again, he reprogrammed all the keys and changed the chips in them.

Recently, one of the keys stopped starting the car, during this time I had written 2 emails to the dealer asking for genuine keys that actually work, and attempted to exercise my consumer rights, and advised if the matter wasnt resolved I would go to Fair Trading. Did not get a response to any of my written communications and they only responded bluntly and unhelpfully on the phone when I called them. As a last resort I made a complaint with Fair Trading who followed up on my behalf.

The dealer said they would only replace 1 key for me in "good faith" to which I declined (via fair trading) and explained I only wanted a genuine key so I can get Hyundai to fix any programming issues in the future. They refused to provide me with proof that the keys were genuine that they were going to replace them with (I took the boxes they gave me and contacted the hyundai dealer they purchased them from to verify that they were genuine before going ahead with the replacement) The dealer also got aggressive at me for contacting fair trading and making a complaint against them, despite the fact I had warned them 3 times that I would.

In addition to all of the above, yes they sell ex-rental cars, something I do not have an issue with mainly because the car had low kms (30000kms) and had 2 years warranty left on it. The difference with an ex-rental car is they have a max of 130000kms warranty compared with unlimited for a passanger vehicle. The bluetooth wasn't working so got the head unit replaced by Hyundai before the 3 years warranty for that run out (it doesn't have 5 years warranty for the headunit)

When I went to pick up the car they said they put premium plates on it and I had to pay another $120 for them, when I told them I don't care what number plates are on it and refused to pay any extra they just left them on there, I think its just a strategy to make more money for them after sale, don't buy into!

Car was faulty no help to repair the problems costing more than car is worth.
Do not buy from them.
Very deceitful company.

Would give 0 stars for this if I could.

The dealers had the audacity to ask us why we did not ask them earlier for the service history logbook on purchase of an EX rental car. THAT's BECAUSE HORNSBY FAMILY CARS never provide logbook histories to customers!!! WHY you may be wondering - it's because they are afraid to declare in their logbooks that the cars they sell are ex rental cars!!!
Yes you saw it right. EX RENTAL CARS. These guys sugar coat their sales by stating that their cars are genuine non rental cars.

Disgracefully conned my Dad unfortunately and gave us a cheap rubbish Toyota... these guys cheat the elderly and rob them of their cash.

Watch out for these conmen. Nasty South African chaps.

I genuinely feel sorry for the poor victims who have given these guys good or excellent reviews - sooner or later they will be able to discover the truth of their 'purchase'...

i months i bought a hyundai elentra from them a exrentel nice car it needed some work done would have bin nice to tell me that the car was a ex avis car rentel cars are not serviced to specyficatio ihave noticed.

There is a catch with their Korean cars which this dealership wouldn't disclose to anyone, Kia and Hyundai give unlimited kilometers 5-7 years warranty with their cars except ex - rental (Hertz, Avis etc) ex - rental are limited to 130,000 kms warranty by Kia-Hyundai Australia. This dealership purchase ex - rental cars from Queensland and sell them to gullible buyers without telling them about manufacturers warranty limitation on their cars.
