HOW TO HAVE A FRAUD FREE FRIDAY:
Coolangatta is a mini mecca built on businesses that support each other and share wisdom. Sadly, we're hearing too many instances of fraudulent activity affecting our community.
So.. if you're a business owner, work at a business, frequent a business or have heard of the concept 'business' these tips are for you.
... 3 Simple Steps to safe guard yourself against fraud:-
1.) Confirm the senders email address – REALLY confirm it. Every. Single. Character. Fraudsters create email addresses that look near identical to the business they are impersonating.
2.) Check the account details: Businesses very rarely change bank accounts. If the details are different to where you’ve previously transferred funds… that’s a red flag worth investigating.
3.) Logic baby: Fraudsters are convincing and their rational for requesting funds can seem legitimate but does it REALLY make sense – think about it – Do you really owe this business money?

Today a client asked if she could hand-write a clause at the bottom of her will. She was certain this would hold-up as long as we witnessed her signature #legitimate
It sounded dubious but unsent text messages & scribbled pen on pie packets have passed as valid wills – Perhaps $70,000 in court fees and 3 years of litigation is worth getting a judge’s approval.

A trend we are seeing in 2018 is banks telling our clients to “just have your lawyer sign off on it.”
No matter how casual your bank is about “the lawyer quickly signing-off,” your alarm bells should sound *NOT JUST A SIGNATURE.*
... Banks are increasingly shifting the insurance liability of loans to solicitors and their insurers by including a Legal Advice Certificate in their contracts.
We can’t always “just” sign-off on your mortgage agreement. A Legal Advice Certificate means we need to read your documents and confirm you completely understand your risks. This takes time… even for the most competent and competitively priced lawyers (like yours truly).
