Hunter Valley Gardens Description

Set in the heart of the Pokolbin, NSW, Hunter Valley Gardens has established itself as a diverse tourist attraction, complementing Australia’s oldest wine producing region. Hunter Valley Gardens is owned and operated by Roche Group Pty Ltd, a wholly Australian owned Company. Bill and Imelda Roche, purchased the property in 1997, developed it over the subsequent five years and opened it in October 2003. They have invested over $80M to create a unique attraction with award winning accommodation to help support it.

Hunter Valley Gardens is set on 225 hectares, with the main attractions being the 60 acres of international display gardens. Located adjacently and also owned by Roche Group is the boutique shopping village, picnic ground and barbecue area and village green. Also on site are Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens (4½ star), Harrigan’s Irish Pub and Accommodation (4 star) and Roche wines.
The village is an intimate series of boutique retailers and outlets (all owner occupied) promoting the best of local produce, artistic talent, contemporary café dining and of course, cellar door wine tasting. The village square overlooks the beautiful Chapel holding many weddings each week and regular non-denominational services of worship.

All this before the visitor has discovered the international display gardens incorporating 10 amazingly themed gardens with influences from around the world. Over 8km of pathways, more than 100 kilometres of underground irrigation, 6000 trees, 600 000 shrubs and 1 000 000 ground covers have been planted and nurtured to create a legacy for generations to come – an exciting experience of sight, colour and fragrance to delight visitors of all ages and nationalities!

Disgusting. I'm a single mum of three boys who wanted to do something fun for the end of my sons holidays. I paid $70 entry for myself and my 3 sons 7, 5 & 3. Then to go on rides, I was told I could only get an unlimited rides pass for my eldest who was just tall enough but told I had to purchase single tickets for the younger 2 as they were too small to go on anything else. I spent $75 in tickets for rides only to find out later I was in fact entitled to buy my youngest boys an unlimited ride pass which would have saved me $30. I am honestly disgusted that you would even have to pay for the rides, they should just be complimentary with your ridiculously overpriced entry. Never coming back. This greedy money hungry place cost me $145. So disappointed. I could have done something so much better and much more fun for the end of my sons holidays.

Beautiful gardens. Plenty to see and smell. Gardeners friendly and chatty and keen to share knowledge. Storybook garden had addition of "naff" decorations but other than that all good.

We visited the 'Hunter Valley Gardens' before the school hols in September last. I was surprised not more was in bloom & preparation for the school hols was in progress. After reading others' reviews about the cost of entry $30 pp & experiencing it myself, I'd like to make the following suggestion; if the entry price was more acceptable, wouldn't the repeat-custom' percentage increase as folk could afford to visit in other seasons?? Next time we visit the Hunter Valley I'll have to give it a miss at $30 pp. Thank you for reading my review.

User

We loved this place! There is so much to do with the kids. Strongly recommend it!

Just be aware that they rotate their attractions every school holidays. Save your visit when one of the bigger attractions is running.

Situated in the heart of the vineyards. Small shopping village offering coffee, food, candles, wines, kitchenware, gifts, jams and the like. Children's playground and open space for picnics nearby. Aqua golf and putting next to the dam. Lovely scenery and the gardens a short walk away. There is even a wedding chapel. Great place for an afternoon with the family or to stay a few nights in the adjacent accommodation.

User

Lovely place to visit and wander through the gardens for all ages. We visited during the July school holidays and the Gardens were beautifully lit for the Winter festival although don't get too excited about the "snow" for kids; cleverly advertised but it's just rock hard ice, under 5's wouldn't know the difference though. Plenty of food and rides but not enough seating so bring a picnic blanket to sit on :)

User

Great range of unique stores and several good restaurants. The Gardens themselves are amazing and worthwhile taking the whole family

User

One of the most beautiful display gardens I have seen in the world and it wasn't even flower 🌸 season. Will definitely be back in Spring/Summer

User

a very nice garden. Kids love the story book theme area but this part of the garden is needing repair and updating. also the gardens are not the cheapest day out. note outside food is not aloud

User

Beautiful garden with some stylish stores there. It's a great choice to spend ur family time. Can't wait for next trip!
