I Am Woman: Rural India Project

About I Am Woman: Rural India Project

I Am Woman: Rural India project emerged from a study tour to Northwest Maharashtra India in 2018 for social work and education students organised by La Trobe University Australia and CERES Global. We are an Australian registered charity and social initiative working to address period poverty in rural, remote, and disadvantaged areas of Maharashtra, India. Period poverty is the discomfort, shame, anxiety, and isolation experienced by women and girls when they have their period. We work with our partner organisations to ensure women and girls have access to education, sanitation, and menstrual hygiene products to address the social and economic causes of period poverty. We are committed to promoting and supporting holistic and sustainable local social change initiatives in a way that is truly useful, and value local knowledge as the most important resource to achieve this. We believe that eliminating period poverty is essential to achieve gender equality and this is our ultimate mission.
