10:30am WW. After spending some time with a lone northbound animal, we found a mother and newborn calf. 2pm WW. More northbound whales, we spend time with a pair of juveniles, accompanied by a fur seal, surfing the pressure waves infront of the whales rostrums. The common dolphin, were the stars of the afternoon, we had a great encounter with a small group just near Cabbage Tree Island.

Super cool day on envision

We had a great look at Nicky, the Yacaaba girls and one of the male alliances as we left the Port on Saturday afternoon. Out wide, we found a southbound group of 4 humpbacks. We saw lots of social behaviours; rolling, pectoral slapping, tail lobbing and a few spyhops as the group drifted in the south current.

We're off to Fingal Island this Sunday! Our 3.5 hour fully-guided Eco-Tour includes Delivery to the Island, a Nature Walk, Lighthouse visit and the opportunity to have a swim in an Aboriginal Fish-Trap Lagoon or explore the rock pools. You'll hear stories of shipwrecks, discover some bush food and learn about the different plants and wildlife that live on the island. We might even find a few whales along the way!

We started the morning with a social pair of northbound juveniles. We saw a few breaches and tail lobs from the pair along the way. Afterwards, we visited a competitive pod of five humpbacks- a female accompanied by a number of males who were doing their best to impress her. This group was moving erratically, with lots of lunging, grunting and tails.

We enjoyed the company of 3 northbound adults through the afternoon. We watched as the group passed close to Boondelbah and Little Island and even made a couple of close approaches to Envision. After leaving the group we found a mother and calf near Cabbage Tree Island. We saw a few breaches from mum as her new calf raced towards an idle Envision. Just before reaching the boat, mum intervened, using her rostrum to steer the young one away.

We couldn't keep up with all the breaches, tail lobs and pec slaps we witnessed from this wild trio during Tuesday afternoon's cruise.

We saw a bit of everything on Tuesday morning. We started the morning with a mother and new calf, tracking along with them as they continued the journey north before visiting a competition pod. A pair of active humpbacks wrapped up the morning with a series of breaches and pec slaps.

I have been on a lot of dolphin cruises in Port Stephens and this one is the best. Lots of shade to get out of the hot sun, very eco friendly with reusable cups for tea and coffee, friendly staff, blankets if it's cold, good onboard toilets, plus there is lots a space. Don't shop around just book this one! Their whale watching tours are awesome too!
