Thursday afternoon Trek 🏃‍♂️🧘‍♂️ . . . For the past few months I've been working on optimising my bodies ability to run and move more efficiently and yesterday proved that it has been working. Previously only running between 4 and 5km because anything more I would get either knee, hip, or back pain but yesterday I said stuff it and went for it (I don't reccomend anyone else to do this by the way). I completed a 13.5km run with absolutely no pain whatsoever, aside from general... fatigue 😤
Aside from the defeat of pain I ventured through the local karawatha forest trails for the first part of the run and wanted to talk a little about trail running and being in nature. For any of you that dont know me I'm 100% not a runner, nor do I enjoy doing it but yesterday running through nature I felt nearly all the stress and anxiety I had leave my body. Aside from the physical benefits of running, or trail running in particular the mental benefits are immense. As most of us get stuck in the daily grind always being in and around traffic, buildings, large crowds of people, we dont get time to unwind and earth ourselves again. This is when we should turn to our roots immerse ourselves in nature. Whether it's running, walking or even going for a picnic in nature it can be one of the most therapeutic things you can do.
With the Toohey forest, Mt Coot-tha or my local Karawatha forest being within short driving distance of the CBD there really is no excuse to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Either go on your own (make sure you know your route) or go with a friend and reap the rewards. Set a goal of 20 minutes to start with then if you're comfortable with it, increase your time!
