Inspirit psychology Sutherland Shire is the psychology and healing practice of Dr Geoff Lyons. Geoff is a Clinical Psychologist in the Sutherland Shire who specialises in using spirituality and meditative practices for the promotion of mental health. He has a particular focus on helping people with life-limiting illnesses through the provision of home-based psychological services. His therapeutic approach is also well suited for anyone with a religious or spiritual world view or who is interested the use of meditation for mental health.

Meditation and Body Awareness Practices
As well as a psychologist, Geoff is also a trained meditation and yoga instructor. He has helped many people improved their mental health by integrating specialised body movement practices, breathing techniques and meditative practices into their psychological treatments. He has taught meditation and Yoga classes in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, schools, aged care facilities, business and tertiary education settings.

Scientific Research
Geoff’s doctoral research was in the field known as the “psychology of religion and spirituality” and explored the role of spirituality and forgiveness in the treatment of substance use disorders. He continues to engage in scientific research in many areas including: oncology and palliative care, drug and alcohol abuse, and the use of meditation and yoga for mental health. He has authored or co-authored over a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and research reports, and has presented his research at national and international conferences. He has held positions as a University Lecturer, Associate Research Fellow Research and Project Co-ordinator, and has received research awards from universities and non-government organisations.
