Interacteam Laboratory - Embl Australia Description

Because Protein–Protein Interactions are highly desirable targets in drug discovery and yet only a fraction of drugs act as binding inhibitors, INTERACTEAM is developing new technologies to rapidly map protein interaction networks, determine the architecture of protein complexes, and find new targets for drug discovery.

Unravelling the enormous complexity of protein interaction networks represents one of the greatest challenges in biological research. With the availability of genome sequences, a detailed molecular dissection of the main hubs of structural,
metabolic and signalling networks in cells is long overdue. Protein complexes with more than four non-identical sub- units represent more than 20% of the eukaryotic proteome, yet they account for less than 1% of biophysically characterized proteins

We believe that together, we may accelerate the study of multi-subunit protein complexes and facilitate drug discovery on protein– protein interactions.
