International Federation Of Emergency Medicine

About International Federation Of Emergency Medicine

Most people around the world do not currently have access to life-saving emergency care. However, the WHO shows that the top causes of death and disability in nearly every country --namely heart disease, trauma, stroke, cancer and diabetes -- are best met by a fully developed and functioning emergency care system. The International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) through the IFEM Foundation and the Global Emergency Medicine Initiative (GEMI) are focused on building and supporting comprehensive emergency medicine and acute care systems on national and multi-national scales. By focusing on the multiple levels of development that constitute a functional emergency care system -- preventive medicine, clinical care, education, administration and management, health finance and health economics, health legislation and health law, and public health -- IFEM and GEMI have been very successful at building and supporting emergency care systems on multiple scales.
