Isre - Islamic Special Religious Education

The Islamic Special Religious Education (ISRE) body, authorized by the Islamic Council of NSW since the 1980's, is responsible for the coordination and management of Islamic scripture classes for primary and high school students in NSW government schools.

All students in NSW government schools are entitled to a session of religious education every week. The vast majority of Muslim students in NSW attend government public schools, alhamdilah, with the Islamic scripture program there is opportunity for Muslim students to recieve one islamic lesson per week to provide them with the knowledge and inspiration to want to learn and love Islam. For many, its the only Islamic lesson they receive. It is an alarming fact that many of these students will not receive Islamic education from another source as they do not attend any after school Islamic lessons. It is therefore a matter of great importance that Scripture is taught to assist them in their understanding of Islam and to instill in them the love of Islam.
