Eczema is triggered by histamine release from mast cells. In my latest blog I discuss what causes histamine release and why some people are more susceptible to developing eczema than others . MTHFR, COMT, DAO gene mutations may put you at risk.

Recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common health complaints of women I see in my clinic. One of the major causes of recurrent UTI’s is a build up of oxalate in the urethra. Other signs of high oxalate include: • Joint pain • Fibromyalgia • Chronic fatigue • Bladder pain • Vulvodynia... • Gut pain • Kidney stones • Chronic candida

Last week I had the privilege of sitting down with an old friend of mine Paul Shaw, the founder of Shaw Results, a conversational podcast series on heath, business, sport, music, and much more. Shawry is an incredible interviewer with a big heart and passion for delving into interesting conversations with people about their vocations as well as what drives and motivates them everyday. We also have a great chat about the MTHFR gene mutation and methylation issues. Enjoy and please share with anyone interested in nutrition, naturopathy and heath.

My recent blog post details my all-time favourite, tried and tested, top 10 supplements for treating anxiety and depression.
One of my favourites? St John’s Wort! It’s an amazing herb that increases serotonin, dopamine and GABA in the brain. Increasing serotonin will help reduce feelings of depression. Increasing dopamine will improve overall mood and motivation. Increasing GABA will reduce anxiety and induce sleep.

As a Naturopath, I have treated hundreds of women with period pain. It is very common among women, and ranges from a slight niggle to unrelenting severe pain.
The medical term for period pain is dysmenorrhea, and it is one of the most common symptoms I see in clinic. However, being common does not make it normal. It is a sign that there is an imbalance in the body that needs to be corrected.

Did you know there are two types of period pain? Primary dysmenorrhea (period pain with no underlying medical cause) and Secondary dysmenorrhea (period pain with an underlying medical cause).
As a Naturopath, I consider primary dysmenorrhea to be a sign of imbalance in the body. The most common causes of this imbalance are inflammation, excess oestrogens and excess histamines.
If your period pain is severe and unrelenting it may be caused by an underlying medical conditio...n which you should first discuss with your doctor to get a proper diagnosis.

Inflammation occurs as part of the immune system’s response to physical injury, wounding and infection. When the body recognises one of these threats it sends inflammatory cytokines to the site of injury or infection to help the body fight off the virus or bacteria.
The problem today, however, is that this inflammatory response can also be triggered by modern day threats such as losing your job, divorce, lack of financial security, relentless work stress, relationship issues, social isolation, social rejection, and lack of self-worth. Furthermore, this inflammatory response can also be triggered by thoughts or imagined threats such as anxiety and constant worrying.

I recently published a blog post about the important findings from medical research over the past several years identifying the significant link between inflammation in the body and the onset of depression. Yesterday I had the amazing privilege of attending a symposium put on by ATMS on endometriosis. This terrible disease affects 1 in 10 women and can cause debilitating pain, anxiety, depression, and infertility. The cause of this condition is still unknown, but what we do know is that it involves complicated immunological and inflammatory processes. Naturopathic treatment of endometriosis must be targeted at reducing inflammation and correcting methylation as you can't get inflammation under control without proper methylation.
