FOUNDATION OF KC | In the service industry of healthcare, understanding why a company is created tends to have a story attached - here’s one reason Why @kcsportschiro was created - from the Director @luke.khoury
#Repost @luke.khoury with @get_repost ・・・ FAMILY | This picture highlights why I choose a path to serve others.
... Growing up I was blessed with amazing role models having such a strong family bond - from my Parents, Brother & Sister, Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and Cousins.
I recall Memories of a great man, my Uncle Buddy stitching me up regularly in his home surgery when I was not much older than my son in this picture.
Yesterday I called upon my cousin (Uncle Buddy’s Son) Dr Sam MacDessi to do for Oscar, what my Uncle did for me back in the 1980’s. It’s the legacy of great men we remember. When I’m asked why I choose an industry to help others, you only need to look at my family to understand why.
Thank you 🙏

THE BUCKET THEORY | When it comes to recovery (from training or injury) it needs to be viewed from a multiple avenues. . Recovery is multifaceted, involving physiological and psychological process allowing us to recuperate over time. This allows the individual appropriate tissue healing timeframes, and the ability to compete or train again at his or her’s required level. . So what is the Bucket theory?... . We are all buckets! (flattering I know) . Our bucket is filled with numerous intrinsic factors (age, bone density, gender considerations, previous injury, medical history etc) and also with the addition of extrinsic factors (work/life balance, social, environmental stress etc). . Chronic overload of the extrinsic factors, or the bucket constantly being filled without being emptied can lead to overflow: below par performance, physical breakdown, mental burnout, and injury. For example: training through with that niggle which turns into a twinge and then by some trivial movement leads to pain. . How do we empty the bucket? . These are a few appropriate strategies we can implement that will aid all facets of recovery: • Specific training programs - accessory movements, strength, rehab, mobility vs stability, yoga/pilates • Bodywork - chiro, physio, massage, foam rolling • Appropriate nutrition - get the good stuff in • Adequate hydration - fluid intakes • Stress management - meditation/psychologist/exercise • Lifestyle - sleep quality/quantity, social interactions, relationships • Environments - seasonal changes, temperature changes etc. . When it comes to recovery we know that the individualised approach is most effective. As we and our buckets are unique. Similar to exercise and rehabilitation programs, it’s not always a one size fits all approach. Therefore our recovery is dependent on the nature of injury or exercise performed and the outside physical and psychological stressors that we might be exposed to. . “The science of recovery” webinar presented by Dr Nicky Kirk for the Sports Chiropractic Association. Thank you for all your wisdom. . P.S. How good is my drawing skills 👎🏽 @ KC The Sports Chiropractor

ACHILLES TENDINOPATHY | Did you know the 2 most common injuries of the Achilles tendon are tendinopathy and tearing? Achilles tendinopathy is a common injury among runners. They may be due to a number of causes, but usually involve a component of excessive loading. . The strongest position of the plantar flexor's are when the ankle is most dorsiflexed. In this position, we're able to generate the most force through the ankle. In patients with Achilles tendinopathy (particula...rly when chronic in nature), we typically see a shift in where peak torque is generated. So what does this mean for runners? Being able to generate full power at end range dorsiflexion enables us to absorb shock and load. This is seen in each ground contact of the foot in running and walking. . According to O’Neill et al. 2018, the role of isometrics in Achilles tendinopathy rehabilitation is not as definitive as previously thought. Instead rehabilitation should focus on higher load to stimulate tissue adaptation, using both concentric and eccentric contractions. Exercises should utilise both bent and straight knee positions, challenge motor control in the use of the stretch- shortening cycle and ultimately work towards building maximal strength at end range dorsiflexion. . With the our knowledge of best clinical practice ever changing with the research, one aspect will always remain true.. any treatment always needs to follow proper patient education and addressing their beliefs and fears around returning to training. . HANDS ON |
There are so many mixed opinions on whether hands on treatment is necessary.
Here’s our thought process. Simply put, if you want hands on, and believe it is the best way forward for you - it would be a disservice not to attend to your belief system.
... We must always take in to consideration what we are aiming to achieve with our approach to care. Yes we love an active approach, however somedays we need to go back to the table and unload you, calm you.
Depending on the way you feel and how your body adapts will determine what happens next.
It’s your body, it’s your beliefs which will drive our approach! We will always provide education and support if you choose you wish to challenge your beliefs and thought process to care.
At the end of the day - Choose your own adventure!

SMOKIN SHOULDERS |
Looking for a fun way to prime the shoulders before barbell loading?
Here’s a nice little shoulder primer we use @kcsportschiro
... We call it the PUSHPUSH | PULLPULL
Step 1: Grab a stick Step 2: start low with bar at waist. Squeeze (push) hands together followed by pulling hands apart. Hold each for 5 seconds and repeat 5 times (therefore 10 reps) Step 3: take stick to chest height and repeat. This time as you pull your hands apart, pull the stick toward you. Then, squeeze / push your hands together as you push the stick away. (Same rep range) Step 4: Go overhead. Go to front rack position and pull the hands apart for both up and down movements. Do 10 shoulder to overheads. Step 5: Finish with a 5 second hold overhead and enjoy the sense of life in your shoulders! Or should we say - boulders!
Note: what you put in is what you get out. As always, if@you have an injury or concerns please consult a health professional.
Thank you @hannaporseland for crushing this.

WHERE’S YOUR HEAD AT? |When it comes to pain vs performance, the team at KC will always work on tailoring technique to the individual. . More often than not, individuals will see us about pain, and in our opinion cueing head position is an important for the deadlift. . So whether you are using the deadlift for low back pain rehabilitation or trying to improve performance, it is important to figure out which position suits you best!... . If you would like to understand which one is right for you, contact the practice and we can help work out what’s best for you.

YOU ARE RIGHT |
Inflammation is an incredible process so why do we impulsively try to interfere with ice of NSAIDs? (Acute soft-tissue injuries e.g. ankle sprain)
Inflammation has evolved with our species over 200,000 years. It causes swelling and hypersensitivity, acting as a natural cast and limits movement. It increases cell permeability locally to deliver key inflammatory cells- histamines, prostaglandins, bradykinins, macrophages etc. to heal the area and gives us time f...or proper collagen formation.
Maybe it’s time to rethink RICE (Particularly Rest & ICE). We need lymphatic flow so when pain allows keep moving. Ice is a vasoconstrictor and research suggests it interferes with collagen formation and cell proliferation (possibly increasing recurrence rate).
Try heat if anything at all. Research suggests against NSAIDs use in acute and chronic inflammation. We’d much prefer you utilise ice to reduce pain rather than having to continually upset your gut with medication.
What it really comes down to is your belief - Which do you think will help? Whatever your answer - You are right!
Depending on the extent of tissue trauma - Movement and optimal loading to increase the injured areas integrity is another aspect to consider.
Ideas and beliefs should constantly evolve - these are just our thoughts based on the readings and audio from the references below. We’d love to hear your thoughts?
