This is a fantastic article that really highlights the importance of using a tourniquet to control a catastrophic haemorrhage from a limb. Despite countless amounts of evidence from the military this is the first civilian study completed to support the use of a tourniquet in a pre-hospital environment.
I have had several conversations with health professionals who still don’t understand the importance of a tourniquet in a pre-hospital setting. Its time we all change... our way of thinking and recognise a tourniquets importance!
If you don’t know how to use one, Lifecare Medical Services will be running our Tactical Combat Casualty Care course (TCCC) mid-late this year. We are still fine-tuning the training program. Our TCCC course will give you the training to treat the 3 most preventable combat deaths being, catastrophic haemorrhage, airway problems and tension pneumothorax.
This week we have also gone live with our online store selling tactical first-aid/trauma kits for police and security personnel. (Currently waiting stock to arrive)

Today Lifecare Medical Services heard some fantastic news from Tom McKenna at Mckenna Motorsport. On Sunday 12th March, the last race of the night at Redline Raceway, Tom was involved in an accident in which his car rolled 4-5 times at high speed. Luckily for Tom, one of our Registered Nurses was at the scene within seconds with the fantastic support of the other infield safety raceway staff. Tom fractured his T4 and T5 of his spine. Tom was handled appropriately once a spinal injury was suspected which most likely saved Tom from further damage to his spine! Tom will make a full recovery and to his credit will most likely be fully recovered before his car is!
